mos6502
Greetings, I've just been trying to load this program on my 800XL from a disk image available here: http://jaskier.atari8.info/# - It's TMC2.atr It loads for a minute and then displays a DOS-looking prompt. I'm new to Atari 8-bit comps, so I don't know what the problem is. I thought with these machines the prog would load automatically when the machine powers on. Does the same in an emulator, and I have a disk full of games that loads just fine. The amount of time I've spent on this is starting to get ridiculous, so I'm hoping someone can just tell me in 5 seconds what it is I need to do Thanks!

adam242
That is indeed a DOS prompt. You have to load the program by typing "TMC2" and pressing ENTER. (whoops! someone already replied while I was typing this!) Edited December 21, 2012 by adam242
mos6502
Thanks, but no joy. Anything typed into the prompt produces an error, or nothing at all. On both the real system and emulator.
adam242
Are you disabling BASIC? Hold down the 'option' key when you power on the 800xl, or change the settings of your emulator.
mos6502
adam242, that did it. What did I just do? Holding down Option stops the loading of BASIC into memory, allowing the program to occupy that memory, etc.? Thanks again for your help! adam242
Holding down Option stops the loading of BASIC into memory, allowing the program to occupy that memory, etc.? Exactly. Also, I'm assuming the prompt you were getting was a "READY" prompt? That's BASIC. Typing "DOS" from there will bring up the DOS menu / prompt and may allow you to load ML programs, depending on wether or not they get along with BASIC enabled. Anyway, glad to help. Enjoy. +CharlieChaplin
Well, try this version then (auto-disables Basic, no need to hold down Option key)... -Andreas Koch. TMC20H.zip

I've got it figured out but thanks for the alternate version anyway! Could prove useful in certain circumstances.
