Doom 2 homebrew?

It's not a homebrew, it's a hack of the Doom ROM with edited Doom 2 levels from the PC. I think there were around 15 levels in the latest one Neo made. If you google "doom 2 atari jaguar ROM" you should find a couple of places that have a version, although I don't know if they would be the very last ones he made.

There are plenty of videos of it in action on YouTube.

I knew he did it, but as far as I heard the rom was never given out. This is a reason to have a Skunk (other than dev) :D

I think it was given out to those who proved they owned the originals and wanted to learn how to do it for themselves, you'd have to check with Neo though, it's a few years ago now.

I knew these things.. I wrongly used the term homebrew. I just meant, someone did this on there own.. Which in fact really means to "hack" it. My appologies..

I've seen videos, I was mainly just asking if anyone had it & actually played it I suppose.

Thanks for all for the feeback tho, I probably will check it out on Virtual Jag.

Ah OK, I just didn't want anyone grumbling about Neo again, making out that he tried to make out he did more than he actually did. So it's a ROM hack, same kind of thing that a lot of the other forums on AA have plenty of but not so much here... for now at least :-)

What he did was pretty hardcore in a way and if he was the kind of guy who programmed tools instead of games I'm sure he'd have been able to create something easier to work with than doing it all by hand :-) Then again, that's what GGN did before he got so utterly bored with the idea.

I grabbed a file Doom2_v98.7z

1854kb

Is this it?

That is one version of the hack, I have that, just tried it recently on Project Tempest to make sure (it says Doom II on the floor after you go through the first transporter, and the demo mode show a level not in JagDoom). I don't know if it's the latest hack with the 15 or so levels, I haven't played it yet. I'm waiting on a Skunkboard I just bought to try it on my Jag with a real controller.

that would be cool if we can play Jaglinked Doom 2, but I've only got one Jaguar right now, and only one Skunkboard on the way, so I won't be finding out soon, unless a Jaglink can be attached to a PC modem or something and work with a Jag emulator.

Dose the doom 2 hack work with network game of doom 2?

Its still Jag Doom - the WAD section was just changed to new maps.

But if you are asking if you could join a PC Doom 2 network game then no since even original JagDoom couldnt do that.

I think he just wondered if you could play 2 jags linked with the doom 2 levels in this version instead of 2 original copies of doom. I don't know that anyone has tried.

Playing the original Doom with two Jaguars usually does not work very well so I don't think using Doom II wads makes it working better :P
