Marius
Hi! Is Stefan Dorndorf visiting this Forum? I would like to ask him a question about his XDOS 2.43 The question is: Is there a way a Ramdisk could be setup, without formatting it (like it can be done in SpartaDos). I could not find anything about it in the docs. I think -since he is author- He could tell me a lot about it, and perhaps if the feature isn't there, he could create it. But, I do not know how to contact him. Perhaps someone can tell him that this topic is here. Thanks a lot PW
+CharlieChaplin
Hmmm, two things come to mind when booting XDOS: a) format never: load the configure program (CONF.COM) and setup a ramdisk there that matches the size of your ramdisk, then save/re-write DOS (with command INI). Next boot the newly configured DOS without loading any ramdisk driver. The ramdisk will be seen/detected by DOS but it won`t be formatted. (However, you can then format it from your program or Basic, TB XL, etc. with XIO 254,0,0,"D8:*.*" or a similar command afaik.) b) format once: load the configure program (CONF.COM), on the first page there is a parameter set to "00" and a description under the first zero says "Format options: +2 do not clear D8: at coldstart", thus use the cursor-keys and go to the parameter "00" and change it into "20", then press Return. Finally save/rewrite the newly configured DOS to disk (INI). Boot this disk with a ramdisk driver (rename it to Autorun.SYS or simply use a batchfile that executes the ramdisk driver). When booting XDOS for the first time, the ramdisk should be formatted, when booting the next time (via coldstart, E477, etc.) it should not be formatted again... If this does not help, I can try to contact Stefan Dorndorf for you... -Andreas Koch.
Mathy
Hello ProWizard Last thing I heard, Stefan was still using a dial up modem... Best chance you have of contacting him, apart from visiting a meetings like the NOMAM or Fujiama, is visiting the ABBUC forum. www.abbuc.de. Sincerely Mathy
Bunsen
Stefan doesn't use internet and forums very often. But he is still active with the 8-Bit and I'm sure he would gladly answer your questions. Next wednesday might be a chance to meet him at the abbuc chat between 9 and 11 pm (german time). At this time some people will meet to play the abbuc highscore chat "abbuc bundesliga". http://www.abbuc.de/community/abbuc-bundesliga
