Opening boxes without bending or damaging them

I actually play my games, so I need to open the boxes from time-to-time.

 

 

Opening these thin cardboard boxes without bending the lid a little bit doesn't seem to be my forte. It also isn't too difficult to put wear on the tabs under the lid.

 

Are there any techniques you guys use to open the boxes without putting any noticeable wear on them?

Try open the boxes from the bottom. It can be a bit more difficult to get cartridges out this way, but any bends or creases that you might create will be invisible while the box is standing up on your shelf.

Using a not too sharp knife to gently ease through the glued points usually does the trick for me. "Not too sharp" is important, because a razor may cut right through the cardboard without you noticing it.

They're gamer's boxes. Heck with 'em, bend the lid a little. Eventually they'll develop a wear pattern along which they open all the time. That pattern won't look bad on them, either. As I said, they're gamer's boxes.

 

This is why I'm willing to get boxes that are ... well used.
