kensu
I just ordered Jr. Pac-Man from AtariMax before I read an article which said one of the roms had a fatal flaw. Is this the rom that's contained on AtariMax's cartridge?
sqoon
Did you ask AtariMax? I bought Jr. Pac Man on cartridge from Good Deal Games a couple years back and wondered the same thing. I have never spent a good amount of time playing it to tell. I am told that the fatal flaw in the original ROM file is that the dancing bonus fruit item will continue on forever, and you will be unable to complete the board. My suggestion is to play through the first board to see if the bonus fruit makes the level incompletable.
+Allan
Yes, I think it is. I have an xe/xl version that doesn't have the bug but it's on cart and I can't dump it now. I've never seen a 5200 version without the bug. Allan
kensu
Just an update: the rom AtariMax uses doesn't have the error in it. I was able to complete the first level with no problem.... well, I was able to finish it, rather. Has anyone else gotten strange behavior when playing this game with a digital controller via the PC Joystick cable? I've had cases where I pushed right and went left... This seems like the distant cousin of that weird calibration algorithm in Galaxian.

The problem pops up when a bonus item is destroying one of the power pellets at the same time you die. If this happens (and it's more common than you'd think), the power pellet remains on screen but you can't collect it making the level unbeatable. +Allan
Keep playing. When one of the objects starts moving through the maze, let it go over a power pellet. Once it does, try eating the pellet. If you can't then it has the bug. Allan

If the prize just hits the power pellet it destroys it like it should, the problem arises when you die at the same time. I think the game gets confused and doesn't finish the 'destroy power pellet' code because it immediately jumps to the 'Jr. death' code. The result is a half destroyed power pellet that the game still thinks it exists so it is required to complete the level, but really doesn't so you can't eat it.
