iesposta
I finally got to hear the speech in Alex Herbert's Vectrex Y*A*S*I (Yet another Space Invaders) with the AtariVox+ that The.Golden.Ax is selling. From "Insert Coin" to "Game Over" and other fun things in between it is a great addition to the game. It is also used for sound effects in Debris Revisited 2010. I bought that game about two years ago and haven't played it until now because I was waiting for the AtariVox+ ! Easy to open the case and change the dip switch settings for Vectrex use.
LidLikesIntellivision
I can't wait to get my AtariVox+ to play Atari 2600! I love the Intellivoice and I'm sure AtariVox will rock! This thread from Toymailman is helping a lot: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/209805-atarivox-complete-games-list/
the.golden.ax
It would be nice if there were a zip for VecFlash like there is for all the 2600 titles. I've been trying to get a torrent for several days (no seeders).
gliptitude
Got mine today. It looks well built and functions great too. Thanks golden.ax! I didn't realize VecVoice and VecVox were two different things. So potentially lots of switching back and forth for us Vectrex folks. I'd like to experiment with modding the case for instant access. Now that I have mine and have opened it up and seen that the case is entirely separate from the unit itself - I wonder if there are spare cases available for me to mess around with??? Any chance you'd sell me a few empty AtariVox+ cases, the.golden.ax??? I'm asking in public here because I imagine others would also have an interest in this. Richard H.
If AX hasn't any spare, you can get the cases from here
mos6507
I didn't send him any blank cases. Each of the cases has a PCB in it.
desiv
Got mine and having lots of fun.. Only used it on the 7800 so far; haven't moved it to the Vec... Will do that.. One of the things I liked and was a bit surprised about was the volume level.. I was thinking (not sure why) that I'd need a small amplified speaker for it.. I have a set of non-amplified speakers and tried that first. I had to turn the volume DOWN a bit. Plenty loud. :-) Looking now to see if I can cut a hole in the case without ruining/losing too much of the label to make the DIP switches available. I'm going to be using this on my 7800 and Vectrex, and the Vec has the 2 modes (Vox and Voice).. So I figure there will be some swapping.. Thanx again, desiv
desiv
OK, tried it on my Vec. I have YASI and Space Frenzy handy to test it with. (One VecVoice and one VecVox I believe). Worked great... (OK, I have Protector also, so I "should" be able to test it with Spike Goes Down, but I need to up my high score to unlock it first..) Then I went to work on the case. Making a rectangle whose top right edge is right at the top of the V of "Vectrexenhanced," I didn't lose any letters. I can easily get to DIP switches 3, 4, and 5. It's not too bad to get to switch 2. And I can get to switch 1, although it's not easy to flip that switch. But I'm not going to be doing it that often, and I only need switch 1 to flip to VecVox mode as VecVoice and AtariVox share the switch 1 setting. I've found the AtariVox+ can be a very motivational addition. Playing a quick game of "Man Goes Does" badly (as I usually play it) before was fine. Now, when it tells me "You Suck," I am that much more motivated to do better next time.. desiv
Richard H.
One of the things I liked and was a bit surprised about was the volume level.. It can output about 0.5W so I "should" be able to test it with Spike Goes Down IIRC there's no speech in that game (just Y.A.S.I) BTW what's the new case label look like ? (I've not seen it)
linville
Hey, sorry for the clueless question, but...does anyone have a pointer to where I can find info on programming these devices? And how the interface differs in the various modes?
RevEng
For assembly... I'm not sure if there's an official place for these, so here are the official docs and assembly driver files... AtariVox.rtf i2c.inc speakjet.inc And the speakjet chip user manual... speakjetusermanual.pdf For bB... Check out the links at RT's page
