Setting Up the MSX Mega Flash Rom SCC+ SD?

Tempest

Recommended Posts

I just got my hands on a MSX flash cart (Megaflashrom SCC+ SD), but I'm a little confused as to how to actually set it up. The included instructions are a bit cryptic, but what I really want to do is put all the roms into what the instructions call a MULTIROM (basically a menu). Has anyone done this and can you tell me how?

I've that cartridge, a very good one!

You'll need a micro-SD memory, I've used a 2GB memory.

Simply put your ROM files in the memory, then at the start menu press a letter to select the unit (just I've forget what letter is it, let me check it), move the cursor over the directory and press Enter over the ROM.

That's all.

Here is the sequence of steps:

1. Load your micro-SD memory with ROM using your PC (and a USB adapter, of course)

2. Put the micro-SD memory in the slot of the MegaFlash ROM SCC (if you have two slots, use the one farther from you when the cartridge is inserted)

3. Optional, if you have already loaded a ROM press Esc on boot to access menu.

4. It will appear the internal Flash directory.

5. Press L to select another drive, press B to select the micro-SD memory.

6. Select your ROM file using cursor keys and press Enter

7. Press reset and enjoy your game. (repeat since pass 3 if you want to play another ROM)

You're right this info is not included in the manual and it took me some time to figure it.

I made a MULTIROM.OPF file on my computer but when I try to read it with the OPFXSD /O commander it says Error Reading File.

I made the .OPF file on my PC as a text file and then renamed it MULTIROM.OPF, could that be the problem?

Also, when the system starts up and accesses the cart, it looks like it tries to run a bunch of commands, but they all say BAD COMMAND OR FILE NAME then it dumps me out to a A: prompt. I assume this is not what is supposed to happen? What's wrong?

I'm totally in the dark. I only have tried loading ROMs individually.

I just looked at the AUTOEXEC.BAT stored on the cart. It has these commands:

PATH A: (some japanese symbol); a: (more japanese); a: (japanese symbol)bin

set prompt on

set date=dd-mm-yy

set expert on

mode 80

mm

All of these give an error. I'm guessing the rest of the commands fail because the PATH command is failing. How do I edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT? I can't find an editing program (EDIT and EDLIN didn't work). The only way I was able to see what was in it was with the TYPE command.

Also, why is this thing setting the system to 80 columns? Is it actually possible to use the MSX2+ with an 80 column monitor? Thankfully MODE 40 sets it back to 40 columns and I can read the text again.

Hi,

I just got my Megaflashrom last week and I'm having a lot of trouble getting the multirom to work. I created an OPF file with the names of the roms I want (matching the file names exactly) followed by [END]. All the roms I want on the OPF are on the root of the SD card with it. I boot up my MSX2 and it goes to multimente where I highlight and select the OPF, but it goes to the flash screen briefly and goes back to the file explorer. I don't get the multirom menu upon booting.

Is it ok to change the name of a rom to something shorter? Will that break it? I don't think it's a memory issue. My MSX2 has 64K/128K in addition to the 512K provided by the cart.
