Pre-production Combat ROM?

I've been meaning to post about this for some time. I bought what I believe to be a pre-production Combat mask ROM on ebay about a year ago. The chip has gold plated pins on a very thin ceramic package with a ceramic cover over the silicon. I've dumped the ROM and it is identical to the released version. Anyone know what it is exactly? Who knows, this may be one of the first Atari 2600 mask ROMs ever produced.

It is precisely what Wickey thought it was, a pre-production mask ROM (very expensive at the time).

Thanks for the confirmation. Do we know of any others out there? Maybe there are similar chips in these carts?

I'd think that the early games like Outlaw, Slot Machine, Bowling, etc. would have a similar chip inside.

I have some source rom chips and they are gold-plated but look different from Wickey's...check out the pic below (here are a couple that I own... I think I have like 30 of these or something):

I'll look around.....I got so many Atari 2600 proto items that I sometimes forget what I have (based on when I am looking for other items).
