What the heck is this?

It digitizes sound into the Atari computer (I have it)...kind of like an early form of "sampling". The digitized sounds can be played back in whole or in parts (at the speed of your choice)...even in Basic programs. The screen will be blanked when you play back a sample, though. You can also "edit" the digitized sounds in memory...and the keyboard can be used like an organ in the sampling program (each key will play back a sound at a different speed). When you record audio, you can save it on a floppy. The file will be "undefined" until you load in the editing program and select the memory location to load the sound to (so you can create a custom organ that has nine samples from multiple undefined samples).

The hardware is where you plug the cord from the source audio in, and plugs into a controller port. The dial can be tuned to attempt to limit the amount of static that ends up in the sample. This part is only used during the recording process. Top speed records about 12 seconds or so in a 48k Atari800.

BTW the Parrot program was made by AA's own El Destructo...you can hear his voice on the flip side (the GuessNum program). He was like 17 at the time :D

Fun toy! :)
