Heaven/TQA
Always eager to read informations about using pokey timers for Sprite Splittings... can you share some information? Why used instead of DLIs?
+playsoft
DLIs move with the vertical scroll so I would have had to factor that in when calculating which multiplexer slot to use. By using a POKEY timer the interrupts always occur on the same scan lines regardless of the vertical scroll which seemed like it would be a bit simpler. Also it was something I hadn't done before so that made it an interesting thing to do. I started off with 15kHz for scan line accuracy but I was having trouble with the sound effects. So I switched to 64kHz and configured the interrupts to occur as close as possible to the required scan lines. I was able to do this because the first two scan lines of each sprite are blank to give the interrupt time to set all the h/w registers, so I had a bit of flexibility. I posted the source code to the earlier demos here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/234237-what-made-crownland-so-colorful/?p=3172380 When I find some time I'll post a simpler example of what I finally ended up with.

Marius
This is an AWESOME game. Thanks for creating, and sharing ... so fabulous! There is one thing I don't understand (and sorry, perhaps this is already discussed in the thread, I did not read it all) ... why did you take the music from Animal Party? This 'happy song' does not fit the game, which is absolutely EXCELLENT... The song itself is great too, but this game definitely deserve it's own song, and something that fits this type of game. Who is willing to create something amazing for this game? Don't get me wrong... this game is outstanding, but it needs another -original- tune! Oh and one more thing... I'm willing to compose a song for the game, but I'm not capable of doing RMT. I could compose something on my piano; someone else might be able to arrange it in something great sounding in RMT. There was much toing and froing with the music which ended up taking so much of my time that I'd just had enough. We received permission to use Flimbo's Quest, so it was either that or no music. At that point I should have asked publicly if anyone was interested in providing some music but I just wanted to move on with getting the rest of the game finished. Thank you so much for your offer but I have received a generous donation of a number of RMT files which are not original but are new to the A8. There will be a new release with those, see what you think then.

FifthPlayer
This new music track is excellent, and suits the action perfectly. This has to be the best 2D shooter on the A8. Thanks for making this game.
Gunstar
Here is the update containing the new RMT tunes that were very kindly donated. MaxFlash 8mbit cart version: ab_cart.zip Rambo 1088 versions: ab1088.xex SSSD.zip SSDD.zip ab1088_dsdd.atr So, not matter which ATR's or xex is used from above, 1MB of ram memory or a flashcart are needed, correct? jefffulton
Probably the Best Atari 6502 home game ever created! Rivals the Best ST games for Speed. Color and play-ability.
Marius
Two questions: 1) Is the cart version saving to the cartridge after a level? I have flashed the game to AtariMax 8Mbit cart and it works excellent. But I also flashed it The!Cart and there only level 1 works, and then it hangs stuck... Since saving does not work on that cart, I thought perhaps that is an issue. 2) Since the game is not 1MB in size, is there a chance that it also could run on a 576KB atari with a different banking scheme? Thanks M.
Mclaneinc
I don't like the new music.... I love it...Much praise to the composer, very very talented indeed....Are there any more tunes from the same source? This great game is now the complete package although I still love the old tune but now it has the perfect music to match the action.. I do hope all involved make something else at some point (I know its been a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG project)....A different genre tho, you have maxed the shump side Paul.....imagine a platformer with this engine Edited October 16, 2016 by Mclaneinc

+playsoft
So, not matter which ATR's or xex is used from above, 1MB of ram memory or a flashcart are needed, correct? Correct - the .xex and .atrs are just different ways of loading up the 1MB of RAM.

Thanks M. No, it doesn't save to cart. MaxFlash and Ultimate SD are all I've got here. It is 1MB in size, the .xex/.atrs are smaller because they are uncompressed when loaded. However the 5200 version runs with 16K system RAM plus 512K in the cart, loading each level individually when it needs it into an area of the cart RAM (and as it loads from a SD card it is fast enough that you hardly notice it). So something like that could be done although I am not all that keen on working on another version.

Jacques
Thanks a lot! Now with few, more fitting tunes than Flimbo, it really rocks! Indeed, demo mode kicks ass even more now, too
Marius
Yesterday I have been playing this game a lot... it is really great. I am improving too, and there are definitely a few strategies you can master to get better (it is not just shooting alone!)
Lord Thag
Get busy with work, forget to check the forums, remember to check forums, download innocuously-named random shooter, throw on SIDE2, turn on Atari. Stop with coffee halfway to mouth and stare at Atari to make sure it is actually an Atari and not something from a decade later. Blink several times. That's pretty much how that went down. Seriously, this game is jaw dropping. Great music, graphics, game play.... Not to mention that you just proved that Xevious and R-Type are totally doable on the 8-bits in style, and you did that in THE SAME GAME. Like... what? Amazing. A++.
iesposta
Only 128 read / write / verify and I'll be playing AtariBlast! with the new POKEY tunes! Mindblowing graphical shoot em up fun! Thanks developers!
