1st up hi from the UK guys !! Absolute newb so be gentle, hopefully Ill be able to pic the correct spots to post but let me know if there's somewhere more appropriate.

Anyhoo...........Im an old geezer from back in the day,old enough to remember waiting excitedly for new releases for the Intv heh heh -NOT that I ever had the money to buy them but in common with most others now Im older I can behave like a spoilt brat and buy back my youth and the games we all dreamed of.

Hopefully Ill be able to chip in now + again but my knowledge pales next to the Yodas that inhabit these forums.Being UK based Im a little limited for sourcing rarities but stuff does pop up now and again.Ive amassed a decent collection I think with most of the rarities barring the new homebrews I read jealously about !!! I will get round to getting some pics on soon but just wanted to tap the amassed knowledge here if I could. - To that end - I just bought a whole collection (to get a couple of rarities and more truthfully to stop it going to eBay!!!!) and amid my (wife calls it my ADHD) excited flicking round testing games I popped in a Defender cart and up pops Pac-Man . Not sure if its a Doh! or Woohoo! moment as I remember people back in the day scamming the likes of Blockbuster etc by swapping game boards round in rentals before attempting to get a mate who worked there to book 'em back in!!!!

I asked the chap I bought them from and he was very apologetic. He apparently worked for Mattel in the UK in the 70's and 80's (and is retiring for some Island life hence getting shot of the loft contents) He said he'd taken it home for his kids back then as it was returned as faulty, having the wrong game board. He sounded legit and even offered a refund for the error.Having had a good buy I politely thanked him for the info and no need for the refund but Im at a loss as to the legitimacy of the item. Previous history tells me opening carts without damaging them is pretty iffy-Im not even going into my experiences, thankfully it was only cheapies !!! Anyway, the cart's pretty much without a mark on the plastic,no stresses or screwdriver marks so Im just wondering if this is something anyone's heard of? Is it something I should keep or just a shame for the old Defender cart?

Just the 1st time Ive come across this so thought Id ask!

First off ... welcome to the forums. Always great to meet new fans!

I've never had an occasion to find the wrong game on a cartridge. I'm certain that it's been done before with the Mattel carts (many homebrews are created using old cartridge shells but new boards) but I've never heard of anyone doing it with the Atari carts. I can't see there being any additional value to the cartridge because, as you mentioned, it could have been a swap. Even if it was a factory mistake, I don't think that it adds any value.

It's a conversation piece but not a valuable one in my opinion. One of the true Yodas here can correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

Welcome to the board! New here myself, though not to Inty. ;-)

Fushek implied the question, so I'll ask directly: Is it in the Atari style cart shell, or the Mattel one?

IIRC the AtariSoft stuff was late in the game (1983?) but in any case I'd be surprised if Mattel had any involvement in the actual carts / production / testing. Intellivision, Inc. did go as far as producing new copies of Pac-Man in Mattel shells with the white label and their own boxes. If a Defender made it into a Mattel shell that would be pretty neat.

Hi,it's the Atari cart . It did seem a little odd & there was a HUGE problem here with NES/SNES carts with swapped boards-but theyre less risky to open for a punter who's hired one so I wasn't sure how legit it'd be.Ive had many hundreds of Intellivision games through my hands in recent years, having been forced to buy big lots to get the odd game, but its the 1st time Ive come across it in an Intellivision game. Not really looking at value,Id stick hold of it as an oddity as Ive got a Defender in better nick but it seemed quite a cool thing, just wondered whether to source a cart + flog the box + booklet off + keep the mixed up cart as the proverbial conversation piece.

Cheers for the welcome too guys,Im a baby at this compared to many here,I know a bit more Nintendo but looking to build an Intv collection as its just about achievable, they tell me kidneys grow back in a year or 2 :D :D

Ill remember to rotate them in future heh heh, just whipped 'em off to post up. The Congo Bongo's a bit ratty on the box side, the owner sat on it the day before I came to look at the collection!!!!!! Got the above bits, these and a handful of 'regulars' (had to buy MORE flippin soccer/Draughts/Triple Action etc to secure the buy in 1 lot) from 1 place so a great addition and for once CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.

Im desperately sad,I could pass days on end playing Sea Battle. In all my gaming years Ive not found anything I enjoy more than taking the **** out of mates destroying their entire fleet with 1 PT Boat. Really should get out more. I haven't played thin Ice or Congo Bongo before so Im looking forward to a few lost hours there. The trouble with being all grown up is I have the money to buy these things (sometimes) but never seem to have enough hours to get deep into games,I used to be a bit obsessive and a high score nut but now it's rare an hour passes without me being hailed by somebody to do something.

Maybe one day retirement will bring more time but with my luck Ill develop violent piles the day before and spend my leisure days wandering around avoiding sitting down

You're exactly right. I have tons of games, but very little time to play between work, kids, wife, dog, house, etc. If only my wife and kids would go on a two day vacation :D.

Great start to your collection, BTW. The sealed Tut is quite valuable and Congo Bongo is one of the hardest titles to find.

Ive got a fair sized collection as well as the pictured ones but Ive collected other formats too so never had any real direction!!! I keep kidding myself this is not really a collection and Im NOT counting the numbers in the hope Ill never have to sell it.Seems as soon as I get serious about a format I need to raise some money (Had to part with a complete £7000+ Virtual Boy collection couple of years ago to plug a financial crisis but the brown stuff happens) Ive got about 2500 games in total with SNES,NES,Gameboy,Coleco & Intellivision but that varies a lot as I tend to sell bulk lots on at times to move the more everyday stuff along after Ive weeded out the stuff I need.

Like I say the UK's not exactly bursting with rarities but I seem to do OK,there are one or 2 good sellers on eBay,OK it's always pricey buying from dealers but if I need something in particular there's a guy who'll source most things - never a great bargain but at least I can get things I seem to struggle with 'in the wild'

Ill get my head round some work stuff this week then have a look see what Ive got in the way of things I want to sell on,time I cleared some or the wife will start asking why there are so many whilst moaning she's got no summer shoes.

Welcome to the friendliest and best place on the Interwebs to discuss the Intellivision. Some great pics, hope to see more when you get a chance. As others have mentioned that sealed Tut is verrry nice, but so too is that sealed Star Wars, they fetch a pretty penny at auction as well.

However, to me, the best item is the "New Pack" CIB system. That's always been one of my absolute favourite system box variations and so if you're looking for something to sell to keep your wife well fitted in summer footwear....PM me....I'll also take the Defender/Pac man oddity too. :) (Not kidding)

As you can see from the comments, whenever you see a copy of Draughts, buy it, as well as any red Space Armada's as they were both more common in the UK versus North America and are both sought after here on these boards.

I look forward to seeing more of your collection

Hi Oldtimer, welcome to the forums.

Great start on the collection so far, I'm looking forward as well to seeing what else you've got.

You're definitely in the right spot for Intellivision enthusiasts.

Most of us are old timers too, and most of us are harmless.

Revolutionika's conviction was a long time ago and he's paid his debt to society...;)
