TI Related -- Ebay / Heads Up Notice

You'd cry if you saw what I have to pay for shipping with EVERY purchase from the US! (the breakpoint of size and weight means that 1-3 cartridges (without box or manual) are the same price, and that price ranges between $11-$35 depending on the sending state) If the seller has signed up for the global shipping program anything under $20 US is free, anything over $20 US and it usually about another 2/3 to the price of the item.

So three $40 cartridge is going to cost me $120 for the items, a minimum of $11 for shipping (if I'm lucky enough to find it from a border state - usually closer to about $25) then another $80 for the Global shipping program.

The GSP is designed to cover duties and taxes, but they ignore the fact that under NAFTA, there is no duty* on used software between the US and Canada.

Living north of 49° makes TI collecting 20% cost and 80% shipping!

*there is duty for software entering Canada on the medium itself, based on current value (so based on the price of a BLANK disk or cassette) and there is also duty on the transfer fee of any existing and valid user licences. As far as I know, there are no licences for using 4A software that remain (technically) active.

Well, if I ever come across something in the States that you are needing I'm sure we can work it out to where you don't pay crazy 'international' shipping. :)

Wow, I'm not sure what the copyright laws are in Germany regarding software, but I just have to wonder if what's included is actually "freeware" but regardless, I'm pretty certain the emulators aren't supposed to be sold even if it's just a "duplication" fee. I mean, if the authors aren't doing this, it's pretty scummy that someone else is. Gotta love the Amiga comment, meaning the seller just sends a DVD with no instructions or added value of how to get up and running.

Many Many moons ago I purchase a MAME rom compilation from some guy way over in the chek republic I lbelieve it was. for $15 US shipped an all, it came loaded with Mame installer and all known roms at the time, C64 emulator, with all known roms at the time, segs - same and Atari 2600 - same.

It was something like 10 DVDs.
Probably about 20 years ago now.

Yes, today i know it was very very wrong.

Thy sins shall be forgiven. Thou paidest fully for it already. :)

I'd wish we could still send those guys from "Inkasso-Team Moskau".

(a non-licensed debt collector company in Germany some years ago that appeared with dark cars, bullet-proof vests, bald-headed guys in dark suits at your front door. Their slogan was "You don't need to learn Russian to understand us.")

Never seen something like this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/332283763996

The seller is offering dozens of development boards. Too pricey, though, for a "dust catcher".

Only three board plus the housing/backplane I think.

I've got one of these and more - loads of information at http://www.stuartconner.me.uk/tm990/tm990.htm.

I think his pricing is a tad optimistic!

New in the box CC 40s continue to show up on Ebay from time to time if anyone is interested in adding one to their collection.

I bought one a month or so ago from this seller and it was exactly as advertised. They appear to have quite a few.

Recognize the controllers yet not the system?

https://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=41150926

This is a Sears rebranded Atari 2800 (not 2600) with the worst joysticks ever made for any system.

May be a cool pickup for Atari fans though. Guessing the REAL 2800/Sears Video Arcade II joysticks are tough to find.

The problem there is that one sold a couple of days ago for the "apparent" price of $700. I say that because eBay no longer shows the true sale price on offers made for single items--they show the asking price as the sale price instead. This wonderfully deceptive practice is obviously intended to drive up the "market" prices and thus provide more profit to eBay. As is, that is easily double the going rate for a GRAM Kracker, as they rarely break the $350 price line--and are usually closer to $300.

Lol, yes ... exactly as I thought.

Another reason why Ti enthusiasts really have to start using the marketplace here at Atariage instead of eBay.

The few times I've used it (a "few times" only because a TI posting there is mighty rare), I've gotten incredible deals and have never been burnt.

I honestly don't understand why we don't use it more. Every other game console and computer group found here uses it all the time, yet TI ads appear no more often than once or twice every few months. Meanwhile folks post messages saying they're going to post something on eBay in the TI sigs all the time!...why not just post an ad in Marketplace instead of an advisory message that you're going to sell something elsewhere?????

If it's to get the maximum possible return on the sale, no one says you have to accept an offer until you get one that is what you want. If no one is willing to go as high as your technicolour dream, THEN go to the ebiz alternative. But at least give Marketplace a chance first!

We're the second most popular non-atari forum here, we should have proportionately equal representation in the Marketplace forum, yet it's rare to see a TI ad in that area of Atariage.

I don't expect folks to give things away (that's my particular schtick), but c'mon, can't we buy and sell among ourselves and support the community instead of making some off-shore numbered corporation rich at our expense.

And no, I don't think we should have our own buy & sell thread here! Using Marketplace opens up the potential buyers and sellers to all of Atariage - and shows off why we're the busiest sub-group on an Atari website!

Our refusal to try and sell amongst ourselves first, really pisses me off and makes us that little bit less of a community than we like to claim.

Is maximizing what we make off each other just sooooo important?
