Anyone collect Tiger lcd games?

I was curious if any one on here was a collector of the old tiger handheld lcd games. I know these things aren't really worth much, and most are not even that fun. But I love finding these things and adding them to my collection. I found two more today. I've never paid more then $1.50 for one. For some reason I always get real excited when I find another one. I'm up to 15 now and I was just curious if I'm alone with my fascination with these silly little games or if anyone else on here collects them also?

I'm guessing someone saw the latest AVGN episode :) For those who haven't, go watch it here:

I have a few Tiger games, mainly the ones I had as a kid. I mainly concentrate on Game & Watch games for the old LCD games. The reason for this is I find G&W games to generally be a lot of fun. Tiger games usually leave a lot to be desired, although there are some gems in there.

That was weak. AVGN has been played out. Luckily though the other videos on Cinemassacre are better like "James and Mike Play" and "Board James".

I threw away all of the Tiger handhelds I had when I was a kid. They're sort of like Game and Watch titles that don't understand the limitations of the technology that's behind them. Really a blight on the industry.

If I had known there were actually people out there who liked them I would have gladly given them away, but again, I simply threw them all away last time I moved. Awful games.

I'm trying hard to think of one tiger handheld that I enjoyed. I suppose--for the time--the Bo Jackson football/baseball was okay, but I no longer have one.

My house burned down as a kid, and I only replaced the things I gave half a rip about.

I recently started getting into VFD games--of course that's a whole different ballgame. Not that the gameplay style is different, but rather that the people who built them weren't Tiger. Turns out that makes quite a difference.

I agree it wasn't one of the better episodes, but I disagree that AVGN has run its course. The last few episodes have been really good. I think this one needed more time devoted to it than he currently has available.

I had Double Dragon, Gauntlet and Pinball back in the day. Gauntlet was the only one I really liked, I traded DD for a Three Stooges NES game...

I don't know about collectibility though. The handhelds from the Golden Age seem more "special" because they were a lot of them. The Tigers came out at a bad time when kids wanted Game Boys.

the only thing tiger made that i liked was the r-zone super screen. i one of my cousins had one back in the day. its kinda cool how it uses both the game cartrage and a backdrop, it was also fun to mix the backdrops with different games, like say the battlearena cart with the Daytona backdrop. kidda made it look like a couseum :)

Huh, I liked the newest episode. I thought it was a return to form. He actually seemed to demonstrate genuine emotion instead of just going through the motions in this one. Anywho...

I don't actually collect them but I do have a few of Konami's handhelds which I thought were fairly decent compared to the average Tiger handheld. Some of these games are fairly decent if you are looking for simple arcade-style gameplay.

It simply feels rushed to me. I think he simply tried to shove too much in to the video. There are so many points he should have discussed, which were simply ignored. For example, how can you talk about the Game.Com without touching on the terrible display?

another good one (not Tiger) is Mattel's Dungeons & Dragons. it is essentially Hunt The Wumpus. it goes for about $40 without box or manual, but the manual can be found online.

Tiger's Castlevania II: Simon's Quest used to go for a ridiculous amount of money, and that is absolutely on of THE worst gameplay wise. even the sprites look stupid.

Strider is another good one.

At the time they were on the market, I was fascinated by Tiger's handhelds. I found it amazing the games they were actually trying to bring into the LCD world, everything from Paperboy to Double Dragon to After Burner. For a while I was even making little doodles on how a particular game's graphics might make the transition to LCD. Of course I would often cheat and use a display with two or three "layers," something I doubt the actual Tiger games ever did.

Despite the fascination, I never actually bought any of the games, or asked for them as gifts. Eventually I did get a Karnov handheld, found at a garage sale, but even that has since disappeared. I figure it's for the best that I don't have any. The hoarder in me thinks those little machines could make a really neat wall display, but the realist in me knows that's the only thing they'd be good for!

Anybody else remember the "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" episode where the gang discovers Jerry is addicted to video games? I remember there being a lot of Tiger handhelds in that episode. If you're so desperate for a fix that you'll settle for a Tiger handheld, then yeah, you definitely got a problem!

I remember having the Sonic 2 if I recall Tiger handheld and beating the game. I also had the Sonic watch too. They are interesting and fun to play to me. My brother had Karnov, and I couldn't beat the game let alone 1st stage. If I played this game again, I could beat it. Mouse Maze is my favorite and I still have it today. I remember having a defective one since it would turn itself on and let out a long beep noise. My mom return that one for another one. Really hard and fun game.

I did drew a screen of my LCD screen if I made one along with the letter matrix when it display text. I think I still have it saved in a notebook somewhere.

I hadn't seen that AVGN episode, I liked it allot. It's cool that there are others that collect these things too. The Tiger games are just kinda funny to me I only had one growing up, soccer. Once in the middle of the night it just went nuts and started screaming and beeping, so I smashed it. I thought these things sucked even as a child. I had a friend who had a whole bin of them, probably about 20. I tried them all and got bored after about a minute on each of them. Now I love collecting them. Notice I said collecting them. Some of them I like to turn it on just to marvel at how much it sucks. However some can be kinda entertaining. I've found the better ones tend to be the older ones. The ones with the more square corners, and were not trying to be an arcade game or a console game. I think at first they tried to make games that worked as good as they could with the technology they were working with. Later on they just made poor attempts at mimicking other games in an effort to fool parents and kids. The ones I like to play from time to time are bowling (the AVGN just didn't know how to play), mouse maze, and paperboy is kinda the exception to my previous statement. At the end of the day I think I'm really more of a collector than a gamer, so even though Shaq Attack Monster Jam is horrible I love having it in my collection. I collect allot of other handhelds too. I've got Entex, Coleco, variouse led football games, Simon and more. I really like the Tiger games though with the cheesy animations on the front they feel almost more like a trading card then a game to me. Since they are usually priced at around 50 cents I got no problem picking up another crappy one when I see it. However space is becoming an issue for my collection so this may change in the future.

I don't collect them actively, but I do have a small collection of them in a drawer somewhere. I used to buy these frequently when I was a kid growing up because the K-Mart that we used to have local in the nearby mall always had these things on sale, so I picked up a ton of them for usually not very much. Probably the most playable of any of these Tiger handhelds was their Tennis, Bowling, and Pinball games. Those horrible LCDs were quite difficult to see, and it was hard to tell what was truly going on most of the time. Very seldom did you have a game that was nicely done, but those three weren't too bad, mostly because you just didn't have a whole lot going on at any one time. Tennis had only the two players, the ball, and the net. Bowling was you, the ball, and the pins. And Pinball actually served a decent enough game of pinball. Granted it was no Mattel Wildfire, but it was a decent LCD approximation of pinball.

The worst of the bunch, for me at least, seemed to be games that were based on actual video game console licensed. Those never turned out well because console games just don't translate down to these little LCD games that well. That was at least true for the ones Tiger did. You were almost always better off just getting a Game Boy or a Game Gear and playing the handheld versions of those games that way.

Always struck me funny, though, that Tiger never bothered to put out an actual handheld version of Tetris. I always thought that of all the console video game licenses, that one would've translated to a handheld LCD game quite well (probably not too different from what the Game Boy version looked like).
