VectorGamer
We know Coleco purposefully trashed this cartridge and tried to pass it off as Donkey Kong just to boost ColecoVision sales. But, what should it have really been called? I'll vote for "Gingerbread Man and the Satanic Rolling Chocolate Chip Cookies From Hell"
Brian R.
It worked - Donkey Kong is what made my family give up the VCS for a Colecovision.

jetset
We know Coleco purposefully trashed this cartridge and tried to pass it off as Donkey Kong just to boost ColecoVision sales. We do? Wouldn't they instead have just NOT released it entirely to boost sales?
+LS650
Pretty sure that is just a myth. I've never understood the complaints; I think it's actually a decent conversion for 4K.

AtariLeaf
A lot of whining about Atari games lately not being good enough. strange to see on an Atari themed webzone. This game isn't good enough, this game is a flop, this game sucks and should be remade. wah wah blah blah. take up knitting people.

Personally, I think they did pretty good with what resources they had available within 4k...no complaints here... ...except it could have used some Shatner!!!!

This game isn't good enough, this game is a flop, this game sucks and should be remade. wah wah blah blah. take up knitting people. Well truthfully, maybe I missed a discussion or two but the two games complained about, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong did, in fact suck. There aren't very many "Pitfall sucks" or "Adventure? What was Atari thinking", or "Space Invaders - the home game that killed Atari" threads. Besides, I'll take those discussions over some of the crap in the sub-forums for the non-atari systems created just to prop the post count of said sub-forum. "ZOMG I stubbed my toe today, so I played my intellivision!" Uh....ok.....
moycon
I played the hell out of Atari 2600 DK back in the day. I remember I used to get so far into the game, the flames guys on the 2nd screen stopped moving. I'll admit, I was always wishing it had at least one more level, and I thought Donkey Kong himself looks shitty, but it wasn't a terrible port. Not by Atari 2600 standards back then anyways.
Breakpack
Well, I liked Donkey Kong 2600 so much, I had to make a figure
Atari Punk 78
When I was a kid and heard that Donkey Kong dropped on the 2600 I went mental! I also like the way the monkey would beat his chest when you changed direction, so going up the ladders was really cool.
strudders
I quite like this game too, but there's no denying it could have done with a bit more polish - 4k or not. It's still fun to think up silly names though. Just a bit of a jest to pass the day
AtariLeaf
Sorry everyone, not trying to rain on any parades. Just something I've noticed lately. Yes many of these games could be better but I've always thought these games had a certain charm as they are. Updated graphics and gameplay are nice but sometimes the old can still trump the new. As an example, Bump N Jump, one of my favorite games, has superior ports on the CV, Intellivision, and NES but I like and prefer the clunky 2600 version. For me nothing beats it in sheer fun and gameplay.
Gabriel
Didn't US Games make a knitting game? No. Sega did. Virtua Knitting. It didn't do very well. The Sega CD spin off called Make My Shawl with Stevie Nicks never got out of prototype stage.
VectorGamer
Sorry everyone, not trying to rain on any parades. Lighten up peeps! A lot of these games asked us to use our imagination. These threads are just asking to take the imagination part out of it and calling the game for what it really is.

oky2000
We know Coleco purposefully trashed this cartridge and tried to pass it off as Donkey Kong just to boost ColecoVision sales. Well Atarisoft were no better then, Galaxian on VIC-20 is much better than the C64 port for example (and there are others too which are obviously nowhere near the potential of the machine) so if that is true it's nothing new. But, what should it have really been called? I'll vote for "Gingerbread Man and the Satanic Rolling Chocolate Chip Cookies From Hell" Famous programmer Garry Kitchen did an excellent job doing Donkey Kong for the VCS (there was nothing purposefully trashed, that's not even a myth), you can read the interview in 2600 Collection The lost interview with Garry Kitchen, here on AA. Brian R.
Like Pac-Man 4K, I'd like to see a revised Donkey Kong. This game played OK. It was easy, compared to how incredibly hard the arcade game could be. That just wanted to get you to move along, or suck more quarters out of you. But missing screens aside, it looked horrible, "Donkey Kong" was barely recognizable, and the Colevision version blowed this out of the water so hard it hasn't fallen back down yet.
