Breaking news: Intellivision flashback coming to retail

The local DG store manager said that his store was scheduled to put the Flashback on-sale on Nov 7th.

Since it was available on line now...why wait? I got free shipping, and by adding a few household items to the order (stuff we buy anyway) to get the pre-tax total to $50,...I was able to use the [OCT5OFF] $5 discount.

Thanks jbellanca and intvsteve for the heads-up.

Or you could buy just the Flashback and use the free shipping THIRTYOCT code (valid through 10/31)

Just ordered all three from DG. Today, 10% off online with code "spookysave14" + free ship + 5% cashback, when I order through Upromise.

Niiice. I ended up ordering just a tad too early. :( They're arriving today, but only saved a total of $10 instead of $12. Of course, who knows what kind of craziness will set in on Black Friday. They might be free!

DG version arrived safe and sound. Aside from the obvious difference of the extra game:

  • Overlays have a nice sleeve now instead of a strip of paper
  • Manual number is different: IN460D rather than IN460 (wonder what the 'D' is for? :P )
  • Batch code on box is 07/2014
  • Tracking code on bottom of unit is 89V0I14

Not sure if the test screen data is different. Date is 07/01/2014.

Attached some pics, comparing the overlay retaining, and then just the box front and test screen. Test screen may be hard to read. :/

Nice pics! My TRU flashbacks had the overlays spilled around, so the sleeve is an improvement.

Hmm, you have two vacuum cleaners? All the better to keep your consoles free of dust. :)

Sadly, the nice sleeve doesn't seem to help much. They're still flying around in there. That said, they will keep fine in normal circumstances. Shipping jostles them around a lot more.

As to the vacuum cleaners.... sigh.... if only we could get our dear children to use them instead of give them a few pushes and... SQUIRREL! We pulled all the carpet and put in wood. Wife thought a hard floor vacuum would be a time saver. Instead, it's an obstacle to trip over and just blows dirt around. To torture an especially recalcitrant child, I just hand him a broom.

I see you have a Cuttle Cart 3 Box like cartridges use to come in . I did not know it came in a box, mine just came as the circuit board in a puffy envelope with 2 cuttle cartridge stickers I had to use one of my extra Poker Blackjack cartridge housing to put the circuit board in because it did not come inside a cartridge case.

Anyone worked out if the Intellivision Flashback can be modded to use original game cartridges, to play the titles not on this unit? Also, i've not seen them in the UK, is it coming out over here too?

It's not that type of system, so no, it's not possible to mod for either a cartridge or SD card slot. The only such product from AtGames that has a cartridge port is the Sega Classic Console (and the handheld has an SD card slot), and that's because it uses a Genesis-on-a-chip. All of the other Flashback units use non-specific chips with a custom software emulation layer. There's nothing to tap into.

Okay, so as far as I know -- we have a member who has confirmed seeing a Atari FB 5 at a Sam's Club, and I found a Colecovision FB at Sam's Club last week, but to date NO ONE has confirmed seeing a Intelivision FB at a Sam's Club yet?

If anyone DOES see one, please let us know so we know they are out there!

Also, if anyone is willing, I'll pay for shipping one to me.

I know, I could just get a normal FB, but since I have a CV Sam's Club version I'm anal in wanting to finish the set. :-D

I'm going to check again tomorrow, since someone had indicated they should be coming in around the first week of Nov.

Marc Oberhäuser here on A.A. makes those boxes. Mine came as yours did, with two stickers and a PCB.

The Sega Flashback was not the only Flashback that could use cartridges. There was a Atari Flashback that could be moded with a cartridge port to play Atari VCS Carts because it used actual Atari VCS hardware so it's not true that All of the other Flashback units use non-specific chips with a custom software emulation layer. There's nothing to tap into. I think it was the Atari Flashback 2.
