King Kong

Released By: Tigervision

Left Difficulty: B

Right Difficulty: B

Game Mode: Game 1

Post your scores right here in this thread, and I will add them to the list. Remember to play the game with the recommended game mode and difficulty settings as shown above so that your scores will be consistent with everyone else. The deadline for posting scores is Midnight the evening of October 20, 2013

NOTE: PLEASE READ!

Bad Monkeys Final Scoring

Post a score on both games

You will be ranked 25 down to 1 after the deadline just like normal on both games separately.

(1st =25, 2nd = 24 points and so on…)

BUT only your highest finish (ranking) will count.

Finishing 1st on Congo Bongo and 2nd on King Kong gets you 25 points.

If you finish 3rd in Congo Bongo and 10th in King Kong then you will get the 23 points for Congo Bongo because that was a better finish for you.

So you will only receive ranking points from EITHER Congo Bongo or King Kong.

UNLESS… ( here comes the fun part, I think AND the BONUS.)

Bonus

If you get the same ranking points on both games then you get BOTH points!

So finish first on BOTH games gets you 50 Points!

Finish in 3rd on BOTH games gets you 46 points.

If you happen to get 1 point on both games, by finishing 25th or lower on both games then you get 2 points.

Get it…. Good.

Do we have to post scores for both games each time or can they be posted separately?

I'm sure they can be posted separately.

Problem is, if you end the round with two very different perfomances (very good in one and bad in another game), you won't reach same rank in both games and won't get double points...

This is a very interesting bonus but also very difficult to know where you're gonna finish in the end of week...

I'm not sure if I should go for the fun, playing, posting and hoping to get the 1st place on both games or if should wait until the very end of round. Maybe a last minute score with 5th place would be much better than a failed 1st place try...

This bonus gives me the dilema: simple fun or try the championship... :?

I think I won't resist posting my scores and trying 1st place... Not a good strategy but it's the best way to enjoy the tourney, fun above ranking. :-D

Congo Bongo (I had this game when I was a kid--well, I still have it, actually. I remember my parents got a kick out of it.)

King Kong (I've never played this game before. I didn't miss out on much, LOL.)

Congo Bongo is very unforgiving at times. Jumps have to be precisely executed or you'll take a step and die or jump in a bad direction. King Kong, on the other hand, is very forgiving. Several times I didn't think I cleared a bomb on my jump but the game gave it to me anyway. What's tricky about that game is anticipating whether bombs will drop down ladders and gaps or not.

just getting on the board for now, although I'm not sure I'll get much further with these games.

King Kong: 550 It took me entirely too long to get this score.

Congo Bongo: 3,030 :? HuH :? Guess I'll have to read the manual.

I feel like I need to take remedial classes in classic gaming after these two zingers. Fortunately, I'm not required to videotape my ineptitude.......

It's interesting you're not good at platform games.

Since I know you have very good reflexes, I would say:

Do not try to press buttons at the right time.

You're very good at judging the right time and reacting at things fast. When it doesn't work, try another way.

In Congo Bongo, I walk jump and die.

Then I don't insist in my reflexes. I experiment another distance and do a leap of faith, I try to jump from places I would consider wrong.

If it works, I go like planned and forget my reflexes. Just experiment, check what works and follow plans.

That's what Im doing in Tower Toppler! I die countless of times doing what should be the right jump.

Then I try another one, even when I think it shouldn't work.

When it works, I mechanicly repeat, forgeting my reflexes.

I really actually enjoy Congo Bongo. I understand the frustrating awkwardness, but I have to give it some props, SEGA's attempts at 3D back then weren't too bad, and I always appreciate a music soundtrack. I also get a kick out of the fact that the creator/s put that torch scene in there.

but I agree KK is really bad, and a blatant crappy attempt at a DK ripoff. not as good as Fast Eddie. however, I still rank it above Coco Nuts. and maybe just barely above Wabbit.

I am also going to just try for the best scores I can get. It's just to iffy trying to wait, how will I know what other people will post?

but maybe as the week progresses, I will change up my strategy if I'm ranking low in one of the games...

Congo Bongo - 61,000

I went to get my camera, and by the time I got back, the game had started over without me (taking my high score with it.)

It was actually 61,000 and change, so I'll take the 61,000 even.

I did a test on the following game, and sure enough, it started without me, again. This video game doesn't like to wait around; it really wants to be played.
