The somewhat newer games like Plants Vs Zombies and Peggle are on Steam. They never gave away the very new things like Star Wars Battlefront or Titanfall to my knowledge. Someone in the RPS comments said they probably felt they'd done enough to no longer earn the "golden poo" award, which I assume was their "worst company in the world" thing from Consumerist. I got enough "free" games off Origin, but ended up re-buying them from GOG for DRM-free versions to use with my custom DOSbox setup. There are in-app purchases if you just can't get enough Quake from the starter pack. It can be difficult to tell "truly free" from "free with bullshit" nowadays. That reason there is why, you get a deal but then end up with a dozen pieces of useless baggage with no interest and/or time for around the one you want.
