salzmafia.com
I present to you a weekend project. Ninja Champ 2600 (tentative title of course). This is inspired by the Karate Champ arcade game. It already has 1 player, 2 players VS and Demo/Attract mode. A few more features are still to be added including pain and defeat animations, health bars, etc. Enjoy as I know I did. Gameplay footage is available at my site salzmafia.com, if there is interest I'll post periodic updates here.

Jess Ragan
Already looks better than Karate! It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. One suggestion? Try varying the heights of the color bars used for the background. I think you can make it more eye-catching that way.
tremoloman2006
Nice job thus far! Excited to see how it comes along!
YANDMAN
This looks cool, Please take these great sprites and make a 2600 shinobi
+Random Terrain
If this is made with batari Basic, you could use the DPC+ kernel and make it look even better.
+Gemintronic
R.T. is right but I think it looks pretty good as is. My personal preference would be to use both pfheights and pfcolors but then you lose the no_blank_lines. Along with the Brix guy I wonder why they don't mention batari BASIC as their preferred tool?
salzmafia.com
It is bB, but I do the sprites in Excel in a workbook I created.

salzmafia.com
Have you tried the tools that Visual batari Basic has? I have but the workbook I use can do a lot more. I can join sprites next to each other, stretch the columns to see what the sprite would look like double and triple size etc, compare color schemes, etc. Also I can work on stuff from my job as well :-)
salzmafia.com
Just a brief update. Blocking has been added, mode select screen (1 player, VS, Demo) has been added, three different backgrounds added. Health bars added, and "sparks" for when contact has been made have been added. More screen shots and video soon..
+Gemintronic
How does blocking work (control-wise)?
salzmafia.com
Hold fire and press away for medium block, fire and away and up for high block, fire down and away for low block.

Amstari
Hold fire and press away for medium block, fire and away and up for high block, fire down and away for low block. This game is looking great. The controls remind me of "Way of the Exploding Fist". That game only used one button too. I've attached the instructions which lists how the players were controlled, it might be useful for your game. PFL
Looking good so far though I haven't seen the latest video yet (I will watch it when I get home). I used to love all those old one button beat 'em ups on the 8 bit computers (Speccy mostly). Way of the Exploding Fist, Yie Ar Kung Fu even Kung Fu Master. Keep up the good work. PS: Do you plan to make your avatar into a real game? That would be cool. It's one of my favourite films from the '70s...
+Gemintronic
You know you can use the pfscroll left and pfscroll right to make it look like the background is moving as the characters battle for position
salzmafia.com
PS: Do you plan to make your avatar into a real game? That would be cool. It's one of my favourite films from the '70s... It's already made. The game is complete and will be released in cartridge format by CMS. I made a goofy commercial of the game, http://youtu.be/lfOGOiorBRg But the screen shots and video is a pre-final version the final version has lines cleaned up, full option menu for 1P, 1P VS CPU, 1P VS 2P, and DEMO. The label used as my avatar was used to make a shirt for a different project.

Kind of reminds me of the example program that batari made: zombie_chase_example_program_by_batari.bin
