mattlacey Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Noticed there's a few guys having issues getting setup with their new NetUSBee devices, so figured I'd post a few easy-to-find hints to explain what I managed to work out. Basically I followed the instructions here: http://hardware.atari.org/sfl/index.htm, though I didn't change my PC config (as per step 4) and gave the Atari an IP of 192.168.0.101 since my router sits on .0.1. Then I needed to manually edit the STing routing table, which I laid out like so (I think from memory the filename was routes.tab): <Atari IP> 255.255.255.0 EtherNet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 EtherNet <Router IP> And finally I needed to specify a DNS server IP in the main STing config file, which I think is default.cfg, but again I'll double check. Find the line for NAMESERVER and set it to 8.8.8.8 or your preferred server. Once I'd done all that I figured up AtarIRC, it resolved the server correctly and I was online! Network is for connecting to the internet and read mail, ftp and such, can also be used in home lan. USB hmm I only think there is a mouse driver for it (anyone has a link ? ) a storage driver was under development don't know the status of that one .. (anyone ??) mattlacey Posted December 1, 2013 Author Share Posted December 1, 2013 Personally I wanted the ethernet port for getting software onto the Atari.... my only other alternative was to use an old PC that's knocking about to write floppy disks and that was taking forever and a day. I want an easy way to get files off ST floppies that only seem to read on my ST and not on a PC (although I have successfully imaged quite a few that way). Goochman Posted December 4, 2013 Share Posted December 4, 2013 With my NE2000 LAN cartidge I could never get STiNG to work outside of my local network. I had to install an FTP server on my ST and use the FTP client on my PC to network transfer stuff across. This did work fine but there were alot of strange issues I ran into with my Mega 2 setup. There are a few FTP clients around so running a server on the PC and connecting from the ST to 'put' files would definitely be an option. Because CAB is so slow at processing HTML (it downloads it fast) I've been downloading files to a directory on my Mac which is being hosted by Apache, so from the Falcon I can just load the standard Apache index page which is nice and light weight giving me an easy way to grab those files... I wonder if a crossover network cable between the two would work? Pretty sure these days it doesn't even need to be crossover, most network hardware seems to deal with it automagically. For the record my Mac is on a wireless connection and the Falcon is connected to the router directly... You could always add a second ethernet port to the PC just for the ST. After some troubles I managed to make it work on Atari Falcon with Sting on Falcon side and Filezilla on PC side. Problem is... it works but it is incredibly slow. Average transfer rate via FTP is about 1.4 KB/s what is practically within serial port speed range. Is this normal or is here some way to speed it up, perhaps by using different client-server programs or some configuration setting? mattlacey Posted November 27, 2014 Author Share Posted November 27, 2014 I've just been doing transfers via HTTP for the most part (failed to get an FTP client working!). It's definitely not fast but it's not that slow. I seem to get around 20-40 KB/sec from memory, but it does it in little bursts. I didn't expect it would affect it but obviously it did. Still far from 20-40 KB/s though, thanks for the info. Yglika Posted December 13, 2014 Share Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) Yeah I was trying Falcon to PC because in oposite direction I have SCSI CDROM to use for big files what is cumbersome but works. I wanted to backup all my contents on Falcon in case its CF card will die (or I'll do something nasty. ). So I never tried PC to Falcon direction until BadMood.
