Not a bad game. It does take quite a while to get interesting, though - and then gets punishing really quickly.

On the board with 67,000. I had one game a little over 80k, but didn't let go of the fire button fast enough, so the game started over and I have no pic.

First tip: Watch out when you lose your last life. The game restarts vey easily and you lose your score.

I have played the 5200 version in the HSC last year.

After that I played a bit the Coleco version, I guess (oh memory :-D)

Then, I had to play the 2600 version too! It's almost 6 months ago but it helped me for today score.

Before joining the HSC, I thought I knew Atari games well. How wrong I was. There are lots of games I never had played before!

Gyruss is a crazy looping shooter! You must get double shots and avoid those rocks.

Commander Vocelli, Sir! I want to complain about the fact that we are sent into battle with inadequate equipment. Three ships when it could be five... You were saying, Sir...? I could stick those extra ships where...? Oh... Yes Sir, right away, Sir! Three lives!

New score, made it to Mars: 169,800. Or was that Jupiter? Anyway, a meditative game.

First tip: When the meteorites are introduced, keep moving. They seem to aim at your position, so if you don't hang out too much, they'll keep missing you.

Gyruss is a hot title at HighScore.com. I played several versions for the recent contest & have been enjoying it very much. Before Saturday night I have played only 1 game of Gyruss 2600 in my life! I've mostly played it on NES.

The arcade and Game Boy Advance versions kick ass!

I like the music thing. Usually 2600 games don't have a music soundtrack, or it has only one voice so it is fun to hear a more complex musical score in a 2600 game. That's a big reason for why I love Mr. Do's Castle !! Admittedly though, in a shooting game the sacrifice of sound effects is probably a bigger hit to the shorts. If only Parker Bros had gotten a hold of the Pitfall II innovation for this one! but the decision I think is fairly successful in giving the game somewhat of the feel of the arcade game.

more than anything I miss the little on-screen bonus point values for blasting a formation of ships. to me that makes the game feel a little bit incomplete.

First attempt - 138,200

Not a bad little game. I never played the 2600 version before (well longer than 5 min, due to me dying on the first formation...)

I kept dying there because I am not used to this game, always played the arcade version. My score on the arcade is over 100k as well, so I feel I can do a *lot* better at this game... I should be able to roll it honestly.

I'll stream this game soon :)
