How do you tell PAL/SECAM and French SCART apart?

Someone asked me this question by e-mail, and since this relates directly to the SGM, I thought I should post this question here in the Opcode Games sub-forum.

How do you tell a PAL/SECAM apart from a French SCART ColecoVision console?

I'm in Canada and I don't know the answer. All I know is that the pin-out of the expansion port is slightly different on the SCART console, and that makes it incompatible with the SGM without a minor modification (which Eduardo said he wanted to offer as a special service to SCART console owners).

I also know that the SGM is fully compatible with standard PAL/SECAM CV consoles, so I think it would be a good thing for people in Europe (in France in particular) to check what kind of console they have so that they order the correct compatible version of the SGM for their console.

If anyone could post pictures of the visible hardware differences, this thread would be an ideal reference point for anyone else who has questions about this issue.

On behalf of European CV enthousiasts, I thank you in advance for any information. ;)

Hi Luc. :)

I'm one of those Who have a Frence version with Scart connection.

I was one of beta testers for OpCode's SGM, it was working perfect for about 45 ordinary ColecoVision games including King's Valley and Roller Ball.

The problem with my ColecoVision was the Sound, there was no Sound at all.

It was not the SGMs fault, because I tested with 2 x AY 3 8910.

I do not have the SGM anymore, I sent it to another French beta tester in France.

So i'm also one Who trying to locate the sound via the expansion port contra SGM.

I would buy an SGM and convert it myself, if Eduardo could advice me.

So what you're saying is that it was your SCART console that had a problem, and not the SGM? Then wasn't there someone else who had a problem with the SGM on his SCART console...? I remember there was quite a discussion about it many months ago...

Anyway, what happened with the French beta-tester? Did the SGM work okay on his console?

I can not remember his username, but I send it to an Cyril D.

It was an emailed discussion, -have it on my old XP somewhere.

**It is why French guys would have received their SGM later.

I know, and it was meant for it to be in 2013.

Yes it is me!

I have received a prototype of SGM last year in order to help Eduardo to make more test on Scart French system. And I have no sound too (with King's valley, the game I have tested).

Too, I have opened my Atari Expansion module to take photos for Edaurdo. With them he has found the source of the problem if I remember well. Then I have send to Eduardo the prototype SGM.

Since this time, I haven't my "commercial" SGM and my copies of Rollerball and super zaxxon are like orphans! ;)
