Emulation help needed... Please!

Here is my problem.

I left Win994a Sim open yesterday and during the day, my laptop rebooted/shutdown.. don't really know why it restarted?

However, I cannot start the emulator any longer.

I have installed the new 3.10 64 bit version and that will not start either :(

I use this emu to do my compiling..

I use classic99 mostly, but I cannot create a compiled XB program.

I can compile, but I get unidentified symbol errors when I create the source file.

On win994aSim, I do not get these errors.

If someone could provide any insight on correcting these issues... I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Gene

Hi,
which Operating System are you using, 32bit or 64bit?
Are you using the same source file for compilation in both emulators?

Maybe it is easier to diagnose the compiler problems if you isolate it. Can you create a short example program (max 3 lines) and use it in both emulators?
You can also compare the output after each compiler step as senior_falcon recommended once, ti99dir comes in handy for comparing it on PC side.

Hi kl99,

I am running Windows 7 64bit.

It is a very high end Toshiba Qosmio 18inch laptop i7 etc.

Win994aSim stopped working yesterday. I then installed the latest 3.10 version, I was on 3.09. But it will not start.

It opens the emulator, but fails during startup.

As far as compiling.

I use the same version 2.1 on both Classic99 and Win994a.

I have never got anything to compile on Classic99. Specifically, creating the OBJECT file fails.

I move the same source file to Win994a and I can create the OBJECT file without a problem.

Ideally, getting classic99 to work would be best...OVERDRIVE! But at present, I cannot create anything compiled.

I have some major updates to XB Racing I want to test compiled and I cannot create the compiled version :(

Thanks,

Gene

Gene,

Hopefully someone will be able to help you. If that fails;

I'm primarily a MESS. user though still do some stuff with PC99. If you want to give MESS a go I would be glad to help you get started. I find it extremely flexible and although it lacks the cut and paste functionality of Win994A or Classic99 that's an easy fix.

Just drop me an email at epergrem at yahoo dot com.

Ernie

try uninstalling win994a then re install it. Make sure your disk images are backed up to another spot first.

Check that a disk file exists for each disk that you had mounted. I've found the emulator crashes on startup if you delete or rename a disk file that you previously had mounted then start the emulator.

Settings are in the Registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BurrSoft\Win994a\Settings if you need to see which disk files it is expecting, or to edit the settings manually.

Yes, I have had the DISKS get corrupted in the past and it caused issues, but I could remove the disk in the emulator.

But I think either a regedit or complete un-install will take care of this. Darn :( I had it configured they way I liked it!

Crazy thing with Classic99... I installed it at work today and I can compile without issues. I have never gotten this to work at home.

Uninstalling and re-installing a few times.

Maybe a FORMAT of my laptop is in order? I have so much JUNK on it now. 2 500GB drives can collect a bunch..

Good excuse to get an SSD :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Firstly, remember that Classic99 can read both files and disks, but can only write to files - no, it can't write to disks. Use the Disk menu to select whether a drive should be operating on files or disk images. The reinstalls may have kept your Classic99.ini file intact. I think file operation is default (with no initial ini file which is then created). You may have changed to disk operation at some point (it can't output from the compiler).

sometimes99er and kl99 are both correct... check your disk configuation. You can also try just deleting or renaming classic99.ini in order to get a from-default configuration. I never had trouble compiling XB with Harry's compiler under Classic99 either.

I don't like disk images and that's why they are so neglected. I have a 1TB hard drive, not a 90k floppy, attached to my Classic99, and TI gave us this wonderfully flexible and expandable file system, that for the most part we used to attach floppy disk emulators. ;) But that's just my personal feeling on it.
