I thought Mark Richards sucked. Geoff Edwards would give the players tips, commentated while the players gamed and needled McMahan whenever he had the opportunity. The show was also perfected under Geoff Edwards' hostmanship. Edwards actually enjoyed playing arcade games.

Richards was just bad. Stiff. It doesn't appear that the guy was an arcader. Just a warm body to fill the role of hosting the show. I don't know the circumstances surrounding why he left the show but it was for the better.

Yeah, I've got one of the Starcade DVD's and felt the same way. Can just tell he wasn't into gaming or the show much at all. Must have been awkward for him.

Not sure how big a gamer Geoff really was, but just seemed he had more enthusiasm for the show. At the very least, probably did his homework on some of the games and tips so he could be a better host.

Mark didn't seem like he really wanted to be there--it was just a job to him (or at least that's my impression).

When I was young I thought that Geoff came off as being kind of drunk--but now I get it. He was kind of like Ed Sullivan in his mannerisms and vocal delivery. And he's funny, and it seems that he was interested in learning a bit about the games.

Team Geoff!

When I was at Underground Retrocade a couple of weeks ago, they were showing a bunch of Starcade reruns from the Mark Richards era. The thing about Mark Richards that I noticed while watching/listening to the shows...he was VERY cookie-cutter '80s game show host.
