Tiny LCD retro composite scrolling

Not a big deal, but something I found interesting..

There's a project for a floppy emulator using a Raspberry Pi, and it will support the Pi video out for a small display (for choosing disk images).

The guy included a link for a tiny inexpensive LCD he was using.

It's an LCD designed for backup cameras for cars.. It was $18, so I figured it'd be fun.

(The project isn't finished, and I don't have a Pi yet...)

So I got it and decided to try it with some of my TV-game joystick things...

The first one I had handy, a NOAC with a batch of NES games..

I got an image, but it was scrolling vertically...

So I grab another one from my drawer, the Intelivision one, which is also a NOAC.

Same thing.. Just rolling...

Maybe it's broken??

So I go downstairs and unplug my Jaaks Pacific PacMan Plus one..

I try that, and I'm getting a great picture....

Hmm.

I go to my Apple IIc (this would be great for that, it's just 4.3 inches, but really it doesn't seem much smaller than my little green display, and this LCD doesn't have audio. Neither does the IIc, except it's internal speaker). So, perfect choice???

Nope.. Scrolling image.... ;-(

OK, how about my composite modded 7800?

Nope, scrolling..

My 3DO? Great picture...

There is no option for vertical hold on the LCD. It says it autodetects PAL/NTSC and I wonder if that is part of the issue or just the older/cheaper systems don't put out a good enough composite signal??

Anyway, if your'e thinking that one of these might be great for a little test display or whatever, maybe not..

Also, I have one of those old composite video enhancers (that were designed so you could copy VHS tapes) and tried that.. Didn't make any difference..

Just an FYI at this stage..

I still think this thing is fun and worth the $18 (especially when I get a Pi), but it isn't going to work with a lot of my older/cheaper hardware..

(Really too bad about the IIc, the IIc video port (DB15 one) has 12V on it I could have used to power it...)
