Fletch
I'm trying to remember how to boot my Falcon via the floppy disk rather than the internal hard drive. I've figured out that if I hold down ALT and the reset button that it does bypass booting from the hard disk, but doesn't really boot from the floppy. It just goes right to the desktop. Any clues? Zogging Hell
Try control as well, I think this boots from the auto on floppy (if not try shift).
+DarkLord
What hard disk driver are you using?

Fletch
What hard disk driver are you using? ICD Pro 6.5 I believe. Edited February 12, 2014 by Fletch
+DarkLord
Did you use <control> only? The timing is critical - it's right after the first floppy access, but before the hard drive kicks in, IIRC. HTHs.
ParanoidLittleMan
Right procedure is to press reset button (or Alt+Ctrl+Del), and after 1-2 seconds hold down Alt key, until Desktop arrives, or floppy SW starts. The fact that Desktop appears says not much. Is there Disk C icon ? Can you open it ? If yes, then hard disk driver is loaded. But I guess that in your case it is just that floppy inserted is not bootable, no AUTO ORG on, or is damaged, so TOS will go right to Desktop, without C drive. Is it there or not ? I just get A and B so I know its just the floppy. No matter which disk I've tried with an AUTO folder it does not start.

Zogging Hell
It is alternate, control boots the hard disk without booting its auto folder iirc. Darklord is right, there is definite timing involved, on HD Driver you have to press control after it has loaded but before it starts loading the autofolder(for hard disk access with no autoboot), but for alternate (floppy boot) it might be before the hard disk driver has loaded (but then again it might at the same point). I haven't used ICD for years to it is a bit tricky for me to say.

I appreciate everyone's support.
ParanoidLittleMan
If there is only A and B , then hard disk driver boot disabling was successful. Now, why AUTO PRG executes not ? It may be that it is not Falcon compatible SW there ? Can you give more details about what is on that floppy. Best would be ST image of it. Zogging Hell
Good point ParanoidLittleMan, Fletch what is actually in the floppy auto folder? And what are you wanting to happen when you boot from it?
Fletch
Got it! Here's what I had to do. Turn on Falcon. Hit esc to stop memory test. Hit Control-Alt-Delete to reset. Hit esc again then hold ALT. That second esc was key for me. If I don't hit that It does not work. When I do, it works!
