Boot Falcon via Floppy

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to remember how to boot my Falcon via the floppy disk rather than the internal hard drive. I've figured out that if I hold down ALT and the reset button that it does bypass booting from the hard disk, but doesn't really boot from the floppy. It just goes right to the desktop.

Any clues?

Right procedure is to press reset button (or Alt+Ctrl+Del), and after 1-2 seconds hold down Alt key, until Desktop arrives, or floppy SW starts.

The fact that Desktop appears says not much. Is there Disk C icon ? Can you open it ? If yes, then hard disk driver is loaded.

But I guess that in your case it is just that floppy inserted is not bootable, no AUTO ORG on, or is damaged, so TOS will go right to Desktop, without C drive. Is it there or not ?

I just get A and B so I know its just the floppy. No matter which disk I've tried with an AUTO folder it does not start.

It is alternate, control boots the hard disk without booting its auto folder iirc. Darklord is right, there is definite timing involved, on HD Driver you have to press control after it has loaded but before it starts loading the autofolder(for hard disk access with no autoboot), but for alternate (floppy boot) it might be before the hard disk driver has loaded (but then again it might at the same point). I haven't used ICD for years to it is a bit tricky for me to say.

I'm not having much luck here. Its really not that big of a deal I suppose, but I certainly recall doing it at some point.

I appreciate everyone's support.
