atarilovesyou
What would you say are the top ten 'must have' games for the Wii? I'm personally looking for multiplayer party type games, but if the Zelda game is great, then by all means let me know! I'm down with anything, really, but I just don't want to buy any steamers that are on sale. The Select Series is priced great, and might pick up Punch Out (nostalgia, of course...plus I've never beaten the NES version, just the SNES game...DAMN YOU TYSON AND YOUR LASER PUNCHES). Thanks again!
Amstari
Best multiplayer for me: Super Smash Brothers Brawl Mario Kart Wii Mario Party 8 & 9 Skylanders games New Super Mario Bros. Wii Goldeneye Both the Zelda games are great, and very different art styles for each one. Skyward Sword uses Motion Plus for sword fighting. Also the Trauma Center games are fun, and something different from anything else.
Jinks
Other M can be found cheap now awesome graphics not as bad as lots of people bash it for. Remington super slam hunting series is fun if you like arcade animal shooters. Re4 if you dont have the gc version.(I bought both cause I like it) Mad world if you want a cheap, vulgar, gory game (warning not for kids!!) Those are a couple from my collection that stand out. of course all zelda and mario thats a no brainer. cimerians
You have to try No More Heroes.
MildCuriosity
Here's a few more multiplayer-focused recommendations that have yet to be mentioned. Donkey Kong Country Returns - Beautiful, tightly-designed platformer with two-player simultaneous play. Excite Truck / Excitebots - Great racing games with two-player split-screen. The sequel is slightly more madcap but both are adrenaline-rushing fun. Kirby's Return to Dreamland - Fantastic nostalgia trip if you're into the SNES-era Kirby games. Features four-player platforming (though only one person can be Kirby). Rhythm Heaven Fever - A simple, quirky, and catchy rhythm game. I adore it, but admit that it isn't for everyone. It does have a two-player mode, but it seems to work best as a pass-the-controller-around party game. WarioWare: Smooth Moves - Another quirky game that throws in every possible use of the Wiimote you could think off...and then about a hundred more. Wii Party - Overlooked party game. I thought it wasn't much good when I first saw it, but playing with friends really brings it to life. Wii Sports Resort - Twelve excellent motion-control games. Lots of variety, lots of multiplayer opportunities. As for my personal 'top ten', well it would include Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Wario Land:The Shake Dimension, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3 and Kirby's Epic Yarn....in some order or another (don't make me choose).
xenomorpher
If you're going to try out the No More Heroes series, I personally would go with the sequel. You don't have to play the first one, the sequel is very accessible. Though already mentioned, Kirby's Return to Dreamland has been a lot of fun and it has four player multiplayer. Really great game. If you like the Klonoa series, check out the enhanced remake. You might want to check out NBA Jam for multiplayer fun if you like arcade like sports games. There are a lot of Resident Evil games for the system. I recommend both Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles and Umbrella Chronicles. Both very fun and unique light gun style shooters. And if you like those you can get The House of the Dead Overkill and Dead Space Extraction too. If you don't already have Rayman Origins for another system, the Wii version is still pretty good and worth getting. Madworld is one of the games I originally wanted the Wii for and reminds me of the movie The Running Man and the game Manhunt. Speaking of which, you can get Manhunt 2 for the Wii if you like the series. I personally like the first one the most, but if you have a softmodded Wii you can play Manhunt 2 without the filter. If you like shooters you should try Sin and Punishment 2. You also might want to look into Wiiware games before Nintendo pulls the plug. My personal top 10 must haves in no particular order though: No More Heroes 2 Madworld Resident Evil series (Kind of a cheat but if I had to pick one it would be Umbrella Chronicles but RE4 might be the best version out there) Excitebots Trick Racing Kirby's Return to Dreamland Super Mario Galaxy series Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Made it more accessible and the controls are great) Wario Land Shake It (or The Shake Dimension in PAL territories) Metroid Prime 3 Sonic Colors (Perhaps the best newer Sonic game) There are a lot of good games for the system but so far I think everyone has mentioned the key titles. Atariboy
Wii Party - Overlooked party game. I thought it wasn't much good when I first saw it, but playing with friends really brings it to life. I didn't like most of it, but it was worth it for the tank game. A nice modern take on a classic formula that was once familiar to console and arcade gamers a few decades ago. I'd love to see an expanded version of this minigame someday on the Wii U eShop. Edit: Wrong game, I'm thinking of Wii Play. Edited April 16, 2014 by Atariboy
Rhomaios
In addition to what everyone else has said so far, I found the following great games: Data East Arcade Classics: ice collection of retro arcade games Ivy the Kiwi?: surprisingly fun Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles: the three big RPGs for the Wii New Super Mario Bros. Wii: did I miss someone else recommending this gem? great multiplayer fun and classic Mario feelOkami: better than the PS2 game imo because of motion controls. it works!Wii Sports: Wii Sports Resort was mentioned, but the original is better imo. boxing and tennis ftw. Unbeliever
Since most of the games mentioned here would be in my top ten, here's another one that I like: Warning: If you get sick off of a "cute" factor, don't play this one: Kirby's Epic Yarn I know, easy peasy, but still a great Kirby game, and you can play two-player simultaneous. atarilovesyou
Thanks again for all the awesome suggestions. There's a lot more games for the platform that I realized, I was dumb to think I could get the must-haves and keep it under, oh, ten games I'm already at almost FIFTY ...but I'm glad I didn't pay full retail for any of them, or else I'd be worried I haven't paid more than $20 for a game yet, but that still adds up and quickly! I'm trying to track down some reasonably priced Zappers, and I hear the Nintendo version is the one to get (3rd party ones are a lot more flimsy, I've read anyway). But I have a question...I've read about accuracy issues with the Zapper games. I'm used to Guncon and that kinda thing, and I'm going to be using the Zappers on my 55 inch LCD tv. Does the size of the screen affect accuracy, or does it come down to programming? And I would say it's a given, but the Zapper works with LCD screens due to their system using a sensor, not reliant on the tv for feedback? Any info on this? I hear the Sin and Punishment game is a great shooter. I did some wiki reading but it looks like the Wii version is actually a sequel?...my OCD has kinda slowed down with collecting 'series' games. I started with some vague guidelines (party games, moving around wiimote games, sports games, with a smattering of actual game-games that is, one player stuff like Tenchu or games that are, let's face it, better on other platforms). When I get the motivation, I'll list out what I've got. A lot of these I actually ended up with because they were priced just way too low (Epic MIckey 2, for instance...brand new for like 8 bux at Target, even though I read it's not as great as the first, I might as well pick it up for that price). Of the straight up games, I've only got seven...so at least my original intent (fun, moving around party games) is still the main focus. I think I've picked up just about every decently reviewed Just Dance type game, lol. Got most of the Wii-verb games...Mario and Sonic Olympics, a bunch of the Lego games...some Caballa's (blown out at Walmart). Anyways, keep em coming and add to the list if you like...I appreciate it.

Gregory DG
I like Boom Blox Bash Party! And you can't go wrong with Mario Kart... Almost finshed Mario Galaxy, but that last level was killer. New Super Mario Bros... again, surprisingly hard about 1/2 way through. (Finished the DS game no problem though.) Have most of the LEGO games, those are a lot of fun. The Conduit was pretty good. Never played Condiut 2 though.

Yep, the original though was released on the N64 only in Japan. The original Sin & Punishment is also available for the Wii as a Virtual Console title in all regions. It's a bit pricey though, but still worth it if you like rail-shooters (from what I've read).
