Question on the behavior of Stella..

I don't have a VCS handy to check something.

When you start a game in stella, it starts immediately in screen-save mode, with the colors cycling right away.

When you plug-in a game on the real VCS, don't the colors stay the same as if you were playing the actual game? And only later do they go into a burn-in prevention cycle or screensaver mode?

Do you have an example?

I'm playing Phoenix this week and the game does begin with cycling colors when you power on the Atari VCS.

I don't see any reason for Stella behaving in a different way from real game cartridges.

And, if I find some game that is different, I guess the first suspect is the rom image!

Depends on the game. For example, "real" VCS:

Pac-man - Cycle colors

Space-Invaders - Cycle colors

Seaquest - Game starts right away

Pitfall - Game starts right away clock not ticking, Harry standing still

Pitfall II - Game at first screen - No music - Harry Standing still on cross - hit reset to start.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - Title screen with Indy being pulled down until reaching bottom then continued theme music recycled.

E.T. - Title Screen Music and face portrait of ET

Ms. Pac-Man - Demo mode - normal colors

Mouse Trap - Game starts right away.

Enduro - Demo mode - normal colors.

In all the above instances, Stella behaves the same way.
