The Intellivisionaries Podcast

Recommended Posts

I couldn't find the thread for The Intellivisionaries Podcast, and I really like to talk about stuff I listen to and watch, so here it is. If there is a thread devoted to The Intellivisionaries Podcast, please forgive me and redirect me.

I've been listening to The Intellivisionaries Podcast to and from work this week. I've listened to a full episode of The Intellivisionaries Podcast now [Episode 6: The Dreadnaught Factor], and I'm now half-way through Episode 5 "Bomb Squad". He was talking about some Intellivision system sold in TRU thru 1992, and I was surprised. Now, I didn't frequent TRU during this time, and I was in NC, but I don't recall ANYThing like that, and I was into Gameboy and NES at that time. Did anyone else know about this?

Also, WHAT is the BLEEPED-OUT word??? That's driving me crazy ....or maybe it was the slow driver in front of me making me late to work, but SpaceBLEEP....need to know, and can't google as I drive..

So, now I'm home, so let's check http://intellivisionaries.com/ and see....Space Raid is all they have listed on their site for the word SPACE. Is it a cuss-word or a highly guarded title that Mattel will sue over if used?

Oh, and the music. I have always loved the "music" of one of the TRON games, Tron Maze-A-Tron. du-du, Du-du-du-du. Du-du-du-du. Ddddd....I can't really type out the rhythm of it, but it's so enjoyable and memorable...so, let's grab it from Youtube.

I don't remember it being so high-pitched. Maybe my TV had more BASS.

Wow, I do NOT remember those loud SCREELS.

Hi Falconhood.

We post a new thread here (and on RVG and the Game Gavel forums) for each episode we release. Perhaps it would be better to just have one dedicated thread here though, to make finding it easier? We do have a dedicated show forum on Game Gavel: although AtariAge gets more Intellivision traffic.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words about the show. We're glad to have you as a listener.

I saw that someone explained the bleeped word in a reply to your post on RVG. Space CUNT! Haha. We try to keep the show relatively clean. Besides, I thought it was more amusing to bleep it with assorted Intellivision sounds!

Perhaps the INTV "System III" and "Super Pro" branded Intellivision consoles weren't as plentiful in your neck of the woods as they were here in Southern California. But they were definitely in Toys R Us here in the early '90s.

I'm with you on Maze-A-TRON. I liked the music AND the gameplay. I remember wishing the music didn't cut out when other sounds occurred, but that's the price you pay when you only have 3 channels of sound. A reworked version using the ECS could fix that though... (not holding my breath on that prospect)...

yeah, he said he wasn't sure if this was the case outside of S.Cal since the company was right down the road. I can't say for sure, I was in college, and there was no TRU near me. I got my video game stuff from Babbages and Wal-Mart and flea market at that time, but never even thought of going to TRU for video games.

Thanks...but where? I did a SEARCH for "Intellivisionaries" and only found it in the generic thread of http://atariage.com/forums/topic/153291-2-worthy-video-game-podcasts/

I'd love to contribute, I was enjoying more today.

I'm not sure what's up with the search here.. that's a little odd...

Anyway, if you want to be on the show some time to talk Intellivision, just PM me here and I'll set it up.

I thought the guy doing the podcast said that he was in S.Cal and it may just be that his TRU had them since the store was close to the Intellivision corp office.

What I meant was that I am the one doing the podcast (along with my 2 co-hosts Rick and Will), and I was the one who was talking about the SoCal Toys R Us in that episode.

And as I said, if you ever want to be on the podcast, let me know...

haha, I have nothing of interest to contribute. The most eccentric thing I did was buy 3 Intellivision games BEFORE ever buying the system, because I was CONVINCED I would eventually get one, and the games were in a discount bin, I think for $10 each, buy two get one free at Camelot Music.

My first Intellivision was the Intellivision 2, but I've played the systems owned by at least 3 others:

a girl at my school, her dad had one...and at 11 years old, the game was more interesting than she was, even though it was just Black Jack and the Baseball games.

my adult neighbor, who had Dracula, and that was fun, but her husband was crazy and actually jealous of me...an 12 year old...weird.

friends of my dad had one at a cook-out party that we played with, the hit game was Lock-N-Chase.

Back in the 80's, the only Intellivision I ever played was over at my friend's grandmother's house, who lived right across the street. Of course, this meant that there was only ever a possibility of getting my hands on that thing if my friend was visiting his grandmother, and even then, it was always an uphill battle because this particular grandmother was one of those types that always forced kids to play outside.

I remember one afternoon I was really wishing I could play some Intellivision, so I sat out on my front porch just hoping that my friend would happen to be at his grandmother's, see me sitting there, and invite me over. He actually did, and I got to play some Intellivision that day.

I think my brother and I only managed to weasel our way in there a handful of times, but it was always a treat to play something other than the Atari 2600. I recall playing boxing, baseball, and a game called Auto Racing (how I remember that, I don't know).

I got to play the Intellivision again fairly recently when my sister picked one up at the local used game shop. I played a handful of different titles, but I really liked the game Thin Ice, so I spent the majority of my time on that one.

Despite my relative lack of familiarity with the system, I have been enjoying the Intellivisionaries podcast, and playing along in emulation to educate myself a bit. The Dreadnaught Factor is a really cool game.

Thanks, Cynicaster.

Glad you're enjoying the show - despite not actually having an Intellivision of your own.

Auto Racing was an early favorite of mine as well; even before I got my own Intellivision and could only play on my next door neighbor's console.
