dark-aleph
It got pretty hairy there at the end. I scraped across the line on my last life. Dig Dug: 999,999 The good news for potential rollers is that it suddenly gets easier at about 600K. The monsters have reached peak speed and are going manic immediately, and then from one level to the next they stop insta-manicking and start ghosting more, and they slow down a little too. They're much easier to pick off when coming slowly through the walls! I didn't expect the extra life when you cross the 999,999 barrier. That was a pleasant surprise after two hours, and calmed me right down after a long period of stressful play.

dark-aleph
Space Rocks: 64,840 This game is brutal! The number of objects on a single scanline is ridiculous - but all of the asteroids rotating is impossible! If I'd seen a video of this claiming to be a 2600 game I would've thought it was a fake, by someone who didn't know that the VCS just can't do those kinda things
LidLikesIntellivision
Space Rocks is excellent and I wanted to show how Atari's homebrews are great. To be honest, I've made this video in a rush. I plan to make a better one but I would love if someone else with better video editing ability jumped in.
+SpiceWare
The number of objects on a single scanline is ridiculous - but all of the asteroids rotating is impossible! If I'd seen a video of this claiming to be a 2600 game I would've thought it was a fake, by someone who didn't know that the VCS just can't do those kinda things Thanks! The routines I came up with for Space Rocks let me reposition a player (sprite) in 2 scanlines, which allows lots of objects to be onscreen with minimal flicker. My new routines get that down to just 1 scanline. In Space Rocks the missiles and ball could only be positioned before the screen gets drawn, so I flicker them at 30 Hz to get 6 shots instead of just 3. The new routines allow mid-screen repositioning of the missiles and ball as well so I can have even more than just 6 shots onscreen. Being able to reposition any object in just a single scanline lets me do this. Must be time for breakfast at Milliways. Scrabbler15
Dig Dug - 274,810 Was starting to wonder if I was ever gonna break 200k. Still too much "Don't go that way!" and "Get out of the corner!" and "That was two guys not one?!" and "Shoot already!". A top five finish here seems farther and farther away. Still playing Space Rocks a lot because its fun, not because of any improvement. .

SpiceWare is performing some calculations on a seprate chip (not the 6507), and adding some cartridge RAM (needs 5k, where the VCS has only 0.5k). Still very impressive. This isnt uheard of. The SNES had several cartridges that used co processors to help perform Mode7 calculations (Mario Kart, MegaMan X, the SuperFX chip as well)

Pick off the meanies in the safest way possible and then make sure you get the fruit. And regarding your location signature? CapitanClassic
I disagree - it's all about the pineapples! Pick off the meanies in the safest way possible and then make sure you get the fruit.+1 this. The first thing you should do is inflate and kill a double stack of enemies (through a protected barrier if possible. You can send your hose through a thin wall whiteout digging through.) this leaves only 5 enemies to attack you. You will probably have a couple of ghosts coming at you now. I usually dig back and forth to give myself some room to inflate ghosts as they turn into creatures. Since monsters are only worth 1,000 for dropping a rock, 1,000 for the dragons from the side, and 500 from top/bottom (with slightly lower points depending upon depth) and the fruit is worth 8,000 you might as well just pick up fruit. Look at that Subtle Wh0*ring she's done. dark-aleph +3 bonus for that Charlene-chart I'm fairly young, but I noticed that location from RJ... that's the best one I seen. They don't write or make 'em like they used to! Can't believe that was a huge hit song, the lyrics are presented like a womans diary, a curse word explaining her error of sleeping around. Does Charlene have anymore hits? CHARLENE - I'VE NEVER BEEN TO ME (LYRICS) - Hey lady, you, lady, cursin' at your life You're a discontented mother and a regimented wife I've no doubt you dream about the things you never do But I wish someone had a talk to me like I wanna talk to you Ooh I've been to Georgia and California, and, anywhere I could run Took the hand of a preacherman and we made love in the sun But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me Please lady, please, lady, don't just walk away 'Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today I can see so much of me still living in your eyes Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived a million lies Oh I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece Where I sipped champagne on a yacht I moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things That a woman ain't s'posed to see I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me Hey, you know what paradise is? It's a lie A fantasy we create about people and places as we'd like them to be But you know what truth is? It's that little baby you're holding, and it's that man you fought with this morning The same one you're going to make love with tonight. That's truth, that's love Sometimes I've been to cryin' for unborn children That might have made me complete But I, I took the sweet life and never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet I spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that cost too much to be free Hey lady, I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me I've been to paradise - never been to me (I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run) I've been to paradise - never been to me (I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece While I sipped champagne on a yacht) I've been to paradise - never been to me (I've been to cryin' for unborn children ) (Fade) I'm going to write a sequel to that song, called ,... *Charlie be good* (You're a married woman now) go Charlie go go go!
