Odd CoCo 2

So a while back I got three computers from an old electronics store find. So I really do not know the history behind the computers. 2 of the 3 computers work great and then I got this odd Color Computer 2. I showed it to a few collectors and no one seems to know what it is. Instead of a 3 or 4 switch on the back it has a C and M switch. Color and Monochrome? Also the rf jack has seemed to have been modded. It does not fit a regular rf cord but instead a headphone jack will fit. I tried to use a cord that went from a headphone hookup to rca hookups but that did not seem to work. Again it looks modded but it would have happened a long time ago as it has been sitting in an old electronics store for years. It also has a standard US plug in. Anyone know what I have here?

Probably a silly one, as you would have noticed and probably already mentioned it, but...

Does your "odd" CoCo 2 have an "AZERTY" keyboard instead of "QWERTY".

If so, then maybe you have the French version.

I personally have not seen one, and good luck finding pictures, especially of the rear (connectors).

Here are a couple of links...

"The French "Peritel" (RGB-SCART) PAL versions added a "5" after
the "-", e.g. 26-53127B. They had a different keyboard layout too ("AZERTY").

Can you take the cover off and take some pictures of the board?

I would have no problem doing that it but might take me a couple of days. Any issues I would need to know about taking a CoCo 2 apart or is it pretty basic? Ive never taken the cover off a CoCo before.

Not really. Just take out all the screws on the bottom and lift off the top. Then, if you need to, pull the keyboard's flex cable out of its slot and lift the keyboard off the posts holding it in place.

I've seen videos of people using a headphone connector to make a composite video/audio output in some video game systems before, but, never on a CoCo2.

Can you post the model number of the CoCo2? There are a couple circuits designed for the CoCo2 to produce composite video, with varying degrees of results. It would be interesting to see which one this is.

Yeah, I've tried about 4 different ones without any success.

That model doesn't ring a bell. IIRC there were some units sold to schools that had a black & white mono-composite? This might be one of those. If so it's factory installed and not a mod after all. Still don't know what that thin black piece is for though.

Looks like AtariLeaf has hit the nail on the head.

Just searched "Tandy's Little Wonder" book, and the 26-3128 gets a mention...

26-3128 - n/a - 16K CoCo 2 w/mono composite video adapter (factory installed, schools only)

I wonder how widely these were sold.

My high school had perhaps a dozen Coco I computers, and the Network II controller, and they all used the standard RF output to a cheap colour TV. We eventually got a few Coco 3s, and these included monitors. Had this model been available (and, presumably, cheaper), that is what the school probably would have purchased.
