Beamrider, no contest. Star Strike looks awesome, and was impressive, but IMO doesn't hold up quite as well. Nova Blast is another Imagic offering that looks great, and I did enjoy, but is one of their rare games that has a 'me too' feel to it. What makes it substantially different than being anything other than a Defender clone?

I never really "got" Blockade Runner, and the sound bugs me.

ESB. Sigh. Parker did some great Intellivision work, but this one feels like they mailed it in. Not really any different than the Atari version, IMO.

Not one of my favorite groupings. It came down to Star Strike which I have most familiarity with and Beamrider. In the end Star Strike doesn't have greatest replay value and Activision was known for so many good things and you guys have said so many good things about Beamrider so I went w/Beamrider as well. Never Played other 3 at all or much.

Empire Strikes Back is almost identical to the Atari version. On both platforms, I thought it was a decent game but not one I loved.

Beamrider got my vote, but there were several others I considered as well.
