Egads, this is really an evil grouping! :) I had to go w/ Thin Ice, even though I love, love, love Tarmin. I did so because I think once you 'figure out' Tarmin, there's not a lot of challenge left to it.

For the arcade conversion I had to go w/ Lock 'n' Chase. Always had a soft spot for that game. Commando always seems frustratingly tough to me. Guess I should play it more.

A lot of people say Commando is tough My tip is to never stand still always keep moving if you stay in one spot you will get Fragged .

The only game here that i grew up with in this grouping was Lock n Chase. But i can't say it was a favorite. I did appreciate the game for what it was but i rarely played it.

Commando is awesome, finally played this a few years ago. A very hard but excellent port of the game. I'd easily rank it up there with the Nes and C64 ports.

But my vote goes for Tarmin. This is a game i only recently played for the first time just last year but i got sucked right in. This game is amazing. Wish i would of played this years ago. If i was to redo my top 10 Intellivision games list video this game would be in it and i'd have to bump something out. :)

Tarmin very easily got my vote. Went with Commando in subset. My 2nd place probably would have went to Commando with Thin Ice getting 3rd. Lock N Chase was probably a fine game, but I never played for hours as a kid - my cousin had so I played but not too much. Tarmin on the other hand, I went down to level 256 and beat all levels - and the hardest level will give you a good challenge for sure - many fond memories of this one.

Thin Ice for me -- I think it may be my favorite arcade-style game on the system, actually.

I'm not a fan of Lock 'N' Chase (buggy controls), and haven't been able to get into Tarmin despite really liking the other two D&D games on the Intellivision. Commando is probably too much for the system, and occasionally gets glitchy, but I still appreciate the ambition and think it plays surprisingly well.

Lock n chase was too hard with the original Intellivision controller. Stuck in corners!

That's it if you try to handle the disc like if it were a joystick but if you smoothly and swiftly rotate the thumb over the disc, corners becomes perfectly "rounded". The secret for me is to play Lock'n Chase like if it were... Gyruss :-o ! (sometimes I can really write nonsense, I know :P)

Tarmin. Play it.

Gyruss was a favorite of mine in the arcade. Are any of the home console ports good? I've seen it available for several systems, but it always seems a little too spendy for me to get. The again, most of my stuff is CIB, which inflates the price too.

The C64 version is quite good.

Surprised. Tarmin on hardest level will take like 2 hours to beat I believe as you need to slowly build yourself up to beat tougher monsters and eventually Tarmin. On easiest level, you can build up much faster and beat game much more quickly if you don't want to dedicate 2 hours (maybe 20 minutes give or take). I played a lot as a kid as well so for me in addition to thinking its a good game there is a lot of nostalgia with this one for me. Quick funny story - I went down to level 256 and back up to level 1 when could of beaten game 100 times because my cousins played a prank on me telling me of some of the other 52 monsters they had seen in game with drawings and all:-) If you look in manual and count up the monster/color variations there are 52. And I thought my invisible potion was just lasting forever. Again, great game but may not be for everyone. But being that you liked other two, think you will like this one as well if give it time.

Man, you REALLY put in some serious time on the game! ;-)

Well yeah that was definitely a marathon game at the age of 10 or 11 - pretty sure left the intellivision on overnight. I didn't do that recently. I remember being incredibly strong across the board and pretty much having all platinum weapons and armour with like 99 level attack I believe. Never did find any other monsters:-) But did find out the long way that game goes back to level 1 after level 256:-)

One of my favorite games . My brother and I went down all 256 levels one time. left it on for 2 or 3 days loved it. Our favorite part was fighting magical doors and getting those cool books . Game was way ahead of its time . You have to watch out for bombs in the boxes and bags some of them were very strong .

One of my favorites too. Forgot about the bombs. I do remember the magic doors! I also remember the cool books/scrolls that did not expire. And yes I agree with you 100% that game was way AHEAD for its time! Wonder if more music would've made game better, but maybe not as the silence was kind of creepy waiting for a monster to roar and add sounds that way. I'm sure if more music was added to game then something else would've been sacrificed so probably best the way it was!
