SoulBlazer
So the joysticks on these really that bad? Do or don't they work? Just curious. thanks. The controllers work, they just aren't that great. The Colecovision never had a good controller to start with, and the people at AtGames, perhaps not understanding how the control knob was used on the original, made it more like a thumbstick that you would find on a modern controller. That, combined with the akward shape of the controller itself, causes hand cramping for me after a short period of time. To be fair, the Intelivision controller has this problem also, but it's worse on the CV Flashback. I picked up a controller knob that was offered by another AA member recently for my unit, and wow, what a improvement! The CV Flashback is great for what it is -- a pick up and play unit with built in games that connects to a modern TV with no hassle. For a gamer like myself it's great. With the upgraded controller, it's even better.
fiddlepaddle
I had one for a few months; it was fun, but not perfect, played it maybe 30-40 hours. One controller broken, the other still working, I sold it. I'm back to just using a real CV now with Atarimax cart.
+nurmix
Would you guys be interested in a Y-adapter that let's you plug an Atari-compatible joystick into a Colecovision Flashback (along with the Flashback controller) and use both? Obviously the Atari controller could only be used for single button games. I'm already making Y-adapter cables for the original Colecovision (check this thread). And as some of you may know, with regard to the Intellivision Flashback... I've been making adapter cables that let you use that Flashback controller on original Intellivision consoles; both the model 1, the model 2/Sears, and the INTV variations (that thread is here). I'm also looking into adapting a Genesis controller to work with the CV Flashback; allowing you to use it for games that require both Colecovision side buttons. I'm just trying to gauge interest here, to see if these things are even worth pursuing. Thanks for any comments / suggestions.
onmode-ky
Personally, I don't think a 2600 joystick would be much better for my hands. A Genesis controller might be good--but I don't have one anyway (yes, there really are such people at AtariAge!). I don't see why people are paying $105 for these on ebay when my Toys R Us has them for $25 and the reviews all say the controllers don't work. Actually, if you go back to Tron Unit's post which thegamezmaster was quoting, the original comment about controllers that don't work was not referring to the CVFB's controllers. Rather, the topic at that time had sidetracked to Bandai America's 2012 Pac-Man Connect-and-Play plug-n-play system. So, on that topic, then: I never used that stick extensively, but I suspect some of the problems people had with it may have simply been the frustration that's inherent to playing 4-way games like Pac-Man with an 8-way stick. If you hit a diagonal by accident while playing such games, you may suddenly find your character going in a wholly unintended direction, probably straight to its doom. This "4-way game on an 8-way stick" problem was the source of a large portion of the complaints about Jakks Pacific's 2004 Ms. Pac-Man (Namco II) TV Game plug-n-play; unhappy consumers thought it was poor software giving them headaches, but no, it was really the nature of the hardware. Now, maybe the 2012 Bandai stick was poorly made, or maybe not, but regardless, simply being 8-way has got to be part of it. That said, I do also think "bulky with sharp edges" is never a good design methodology when it comes to game controllers. onmode-ky

I'm hoping you're get enough interest in this adapter...cause I really need one...make that two! StephenJ I already made a prototype / test cable that works fine with an Atari joystick. But I still have to sort out the best way to make a Genesis controller adapter - that allows you to use 2 buttons - work with the CVFB. I know those have been made to work with the original Colecovision, but that involved modding an actual Genesis controller.

Ya, you have to cut a couple of traces on the controller board and put in a new jumper to get two button operation for the colecovision using a sega genesis gamepad. akator
Last Fall I was somewhat disappointed by the CV Flashback. After a few hours with it, I packed it up. The emulation was off, controllers were cheap and wrong, etc., blah blah blah. Today I plugged the CV Flashback back in and had a blast. I am able to enjoy it far more than I did months ago, probably because I let go of all those expectations. It may not be perfect but it can still be a lot of fun

Hmm, that would be interesting. I remember a failed crowdfund a couple years ago for a mobile CV app, which asked for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
