Blazing Lazers
Hello all! Since I know I'm not the only Channel F collector here, I was curious if anyone else noticed the following auctions for loose #'s 19, 22, and 23: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Channel-F-videocart-19-Checkers-Fairchild-SUPER-RARE-/291137778636?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43c929f3cc http://www.ebay.com/itm/Channel-F-videocart-22-Slot-Machine-Fairchild-ULTRA-RARE-/291137785596?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43c92a0efc http://www.ebay.com/itm/Channel-F-videocart-23-Galactic-Space-Wars-Fairchild-ULTRA-RARE-/291137788567?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43c92a1a97 and the way high bids: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=291137778636&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 (same for all 3) and happened to notice that the high staring prices of $60 on each were more than doubled to $126 by some bidder with a 15666 feedback, and now another bidder has put up $128 for each one. I've sold and bought CIB copies of 22 and 23 for less, and even had a loose #19 for much less too. Is this shill bidding by the seller, or just a truly spendthrift collector in action? I thought it might be schoolgirl bidding them up but the feedback number is different. So is it just me, or are these prices really way high, especially with 4 days remaining on the listing? ianoid
It's not that out of control. I don't think those prices are common, but that being said, I've asked for $100 for similar carts and gotten it at shows. If it was $300, I would be suspicious, for certain. You can't be certain what's happening nowadays, since there have been some price spikes on rarities. I would be sort of surprised if they end over $150. A great deal more and I'd be curious about the legitimacy- or stupidity. I've certainly bought those carts for under $50- but I always felt I was getting a great deal. I would not expect to be able to do that again. ian
Andre81
The bidder with 15,000+ feedback is "happiestsellerever!" Probably wanted to get it graded and relisted for $2,999.
Atari_Bill
The bidder with 15,000+ feedback is "happiestsellerever!" Probably wanted to get it graded and relisted for $2,999. That's exactly the case. Not sure where he gets the capital from, but 'happiestsellerever!" grabs anything of rarity he can find no matter the price, sends it off for grading and relists it for at multiple thousands. I've been looking for a boxed copy of O2 Power Lords forever and the only copies I ever see are the 3-4 he has for sale at jacked up prices.
+stupus
yeah happiestsellerever is on some top quality crack for instance if you feel like buying a copy of the odyssey 2 homebrew mage...why go and buy a copy that is still available to buy from the pulisher for about $55 you can just buy happiestseller's copy for only $1300. Then you will help happiestsellerever live up to his name (and go buy more crack) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Odyssey-2-Game-Mage-for-the-Odyssey-2-Videopac-Video-Game-System-New-/291044859778?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43c3a01f82 but hurry there are 3 watchers!
Blazing Lazers
happiestsellerever huh? I could've used somebody like him last year when I was selling off some duplicates. Ah well, I hope he isn't around the next time complete copies of #19 and 25 come up... Thanks all for confirming that this is some reseller purposely bidding these up! ianoid
With eBay it always takes two. So it's two crazy folks, which makes it even stranger. Creating an artificial market is unsustainable.

FND
Agree loose they are going a little high but not really excessively high. I have sold these complete for just a little over their current price although that was a few years ago. 19 and 25 are very hard to locate at a good price lately
FND
After reading the full description I see these are untested! I would never spend that Kind of money on these not knowing if they are working or not its not unusual for theseto get damaged over the years simply because the little covers on the ROM chipscan become loose and break the wire connections when they move. I have one number 19 that is not working because of this problem. Have also hada few others, probably less then 3 total but it’s a problem I have found more then once. Blazing Lazers
WTF???? Is up with those ending prices????? $272 for a loose Checkers? $215 each for Slot Machine and Galactic Space Wars??? ianoid
The prices won't last, especially if you are selling. Or me. High prices are probably a consequence of inexperienced collectors. Less patience and price knowledge.
Blazing Lazers
The prices won't last, especially if you are selling. Or me. High prices are probably a consequence of inexperienced collectors. Less patience and price knowledge. I certainly hope so, since there's still a few I need to finish off the set. Such as an illustrated box version of Galactic Space Wars, like the one in this new listing that makes specific mention of the recent insane sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191177189005?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT all it takes is one out of whack sale for someone else to crawl out of the woodwork looking to take advantage. It will be appropriate if that CIB copy goes for less than the loose one!
Tombstone
Makes me want to throw my copy of Pac Man out there just to see. Then again, I'd rather keep it.
ianoid
I'll bet it will sell for less. My experience is that BINs set at peak auction prices don't sell. At least this had a reasonable starting bid.
Blazing Lazers
HAH! The CIB copy of Galactic Space Wars sold for only $128- way less than the loose copy and certainly far less than the seller was probably hoping to receive. Still way high for a Channel F game, but it is satisfying to know that for once blatantly greedy opportunism has been deflated when it comes to classic gaming auctions. I hope this serves as a lesson for some! http://www.ebay.com/itm/COMPLETE-Channel-F-Videocart-23-Galactic-Space-Wars-Fairchild-Videocart-/191177189005?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=6%252FaAcDUFV9UP6b2s9%252FWARqF2Wz4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Edited May 26, 2014 by Blazing Lazers
roadrunner
I'm glad I don't collect for Channel F,it's bad enough the happiestsellerever keeps buying the same Atari games over and over. Edited June 7, 2014 by roadrunner
Blazing Lazers
More greedy opportunism from another seller- ignorant as well, since they clearly didn't see the more recent listing that ended for HALF what they're asking here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Channel-F-Videocart-23-Galactic-Space-Wars-Fairchild-Video-Game-Box-Manual-/151321305231?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item233b73e08f

If he wins it will probably be back for a even higher price. He was second on this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/COMPLETE-Channel-F-Videocart-23-Galactic-Space-Wars-Fairchild-Videocart-/191177189005?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item2c830c668d
Atari_Bill
Looks like happiestsellerever is at it again. As of now $150 for this Channel F cart (no box even). This is a rarish one, but not at the top of the rarity chart for the Channel F! He seems to be on a Channel F binge right now no price too high to get what he wants. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171351035058?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 There's a Channel F #23 cart out there with box that he's got right now as well. I'll be making sure he's going to spend a lot more than that on it!
FND
If I had more time I would put up a CIB #20 for the same price BIN. There is certainly somethingnot right with these loose cart bids
Blazing Lazers
Egad... I wonder if happiest bought that loose $300 Democart...
Bodyshots
I understand the purpose of Grading… (I think) But if you can clearly see some item is in great condition, why not just get that one? Why does purchasing an item after it has been graded make it that much better? I can understand with coins or bills, but… Or am I just not that much of a hardcore collector? I want to be able to 'enjoy' my items and have fun with them from time to time. They do not have to sit on a shelf in it's original packaging with a grading # on them… merely for bragging rights. A game is meant to be played. A Console is meant to be used. I just don't understand the "look but don't touch" reasoning behind the collecting. But then again, if you own it, it's yours to do with as you see fit. Put that rare cart under the wobbly table leg if it makes you happy… (shrugs)
Atari_Bill
Looks like the Video Whizball went to another buyer, but that just means that there's another one out there as insane as happiestsellerever! It also means he'll be back to raise the price of the next one on the market
FND
Maybe I should just throw away all the boxes, it seems loose sells better ?
