The video that Sometimes posted above is also very good. It follows the software publishing house Imagine, which was the Titan of the UK home computer software publishing industry. It was supposed to capture how awesome and profitable and cool the software company was. What the film crew *actually* found when they turned up was a company that was bankrupt, and about to be raided by the bailiffs and the locks changed.

Well worth watching.

Micro Men is the best thing ever committed to film regarding the home computer boom, IMO. You probably have to be British, though, to really really get it.

Fantastic film. I've watched it probably five times!

I have also watched it more times than is deemed normal, I stopped watching it when I started getting anal about some of the discrepancies in the film, such as the level comment about Jet Set Willy-which has no levels,

I love THIS 1970 film that was one of the first to run with the superior AI taking over the world themes! WARGAMES owes it a lot I think:

Storyline

Forbin is the designer of an incredibly sophisticated computer that will run all of America's nuclear defenses. Shortly after being turned on, it detects the existence of Guardian, the Soviet counterpart, previously unknown to US Planners. Both computers insist that they be linked, and after taking safeguards to preserve confidential material, each side agrees to allow it. As soon as the link is established the two become a new Super computer and threaten the world with the immediate launch of nuclear weapons if they are detached. Colossus begins to give its plans for the management of the world under its guidance. Forbin and the other scientists form a technological resistance to Colossus which must operate underground.

Whoa! That sounds AWESOME! I'm going to watch that! Sounds like someone was trying to post a warning about the over reliance of computers, even back in 1970.

Have you seen The Billion Dollar Brain? 1967. Michael Caine. Brilliant. Contains just the right amount of 60's Cold War paranoia, science fiction, and plain bonkers. It too features an all-seeing AI computer that can talk. Bonkers. I mean, why didn't they just switch the effing thing off?

Well worth it if you can get it for a few dollars. Kick back on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy it in all it's bonkers-ness.

My lad's up to level 8!

(Also, early in the program, they show a clip of an Amstrad micro which wasn't to be released for another few years)...

Stop it you F***ers! You're spoiling it for me!

Trivia: tenter the scene at the end where Clive Sinclair and Chris Curry have made up and they meet up again for a drink in the pub where they previously had a fight? Do you know who the barmaid is that says "time please! "?

Yes I know who he/she is, rumour has it she is pretty good with vintage computers.

P.S-I was inspired to visit the pub "The Baron of Beef"-it looks nothing like the program, really pissed off not to see Clive&Chris in there with Black Sabbath on the Jukebox.
