A Black Falcon
I'm confused...3DO games were all long boxes. They're too small, you can't fit much of a manual in those things! They worked for PC games because with the large box you could have a separate manual, but consoles that use those cases... I don't know, I like larger cases better. Plus of course the things are fragile and break all the time. Saturn/Sega CD-style longbox cases, like Novastorm uses, also are extremely fragile, but I do think that people who complain about that all the time leave out that normal jewelcases are no better, durability-wise. I like the look of those big jewelcases anyway. Anyway though, there I was mostly comparing cases like Novastorm's to those of other PS1 games, not to the 3DO. Not quite -- there were a few jewel-case only releases in the US, mostly samplers and adult games. (And of course all Euro and Japanese releases used regular jewel cases.) There were two types of NA 3do boxes. Ones like the PS1 ones, where they opened from the side and had a full length manual with a disc held within the long case, or a cardboard one that opened on the end with a jewel case inside and a long manual inside. Either way, you end up with a long box and long manual. I agree jewel cases suck, but the 3DO didn't really utilize those unless if was the latter style box which just held the CD inside in place. Not quite -- there were a few jewel-case only releases in the US, mostly samplers and adult games. (And of course all Euro and Japanese releases used regular jewel cases.) True. I don't really see the "porn" games as real games. I know they "are", but they always seem very unofficial. But you're right, Japanese games were jewel case only. I guess I thought we were just talking NA games . Those are the ones I primarily collect, so that's how I think of the game boxes for the 3DO. There were actually four or five different longbox styles, including a pull-off/nesting box type where the two parts of the box aren't hinged at all, and a ton of games came with jewel-case-sized manuals. I've attached a .txt file that someone on 3DO ZONE put together -- I can't remember who, alas -- which details some of the variations. True. I don't really see the "porn" games as real games. The only other jewel case releases in the US were the three Woody Woodpecker video discs and (I believe) a sports instructional title, so for all practical purposes, non-sexy US 3DO game = longbox is correct. The only exception is Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, which did indeed have a longbox (and is absolutely hilarious, BTW). 3do game style box list.txt
zetastrike
I hate longboxes, so I buy games that originally came in a box with a blank jewel case loose. If it's one of the games that came in a jewel case with a manual and back art insert, like SSF2T, Starblade, Bladeforce, Cyberdillo (I actually like Cyberdillo btw), PO'ed, Guardian War, etc that was INSIDE a stupid cardboard box, I get everything but the box. Wyluli Wolf
Nice find! Congrats! I have yet to add one of these to my collection. In the meantime I'll just have to enjoy Road Rash on my PS1.
cybdmn
Good news! I found the source of those files. It's coming from a Chinese gaming forum. This chinese website took the photos from here: http://www.blood-is-red.de/mw/index.php?title=3DO_Interactive_Multiplayer I photographed these consoles. I bought that FZ-1 from ebay in germany. It is a US-NTSC model, and i have no clue why it has no RF.
