hendersonn
Hi there, my name is Matt. I've lurked the forums for a while and decided to join to further learn about what the Atari has to offer. I've been studying assembly, mostly with AVRs, but I would like to transition to the 6502 and see what I can do with that. I actually started my work a few months ago, but for the sake of keeping a long story short, I was running Windows, and am now on Linux (Ubuntu 14). I'm currently trying to find a good assembler since DASM seems to be losing it's popularity (and support). But that's not the point of the thread. Hello, I hope to make some new friends here! (I figured I would post here since this is where I'll probably be most of the time; that and I didn’t see a "misc" forum.)
Thomas Jentzsch
DASM is still used by many (if not most) projects. It us not perfect, but all other assemblers I am aware of have their flaws too and there exists a big, DASM-compatible code base.
+Andrew Davie
Yes, I'd have to agree with Thomas. Personally I don't like DASM -- partially because I've seen inside the code and it's not pretty. I feel sick. But anyway, it does a capable job of assembling some gnarly code and macros and has a huge codebase and support from users, myself included. So, go with DASM for the while.
