I re-downloaded it again today. 3 different AV Program scans pick up nothing for me.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I mean a link virus on HIS computer thats hanging some code on the exe file after depacking or saving on his computer.

It would explain why defender alerts... only on his computer...

It's just an idea...

Yeah, I was the one that ran the scan there. I agree, this seems like a fals positive.

And I downloaded Paul's .rar file and extracted it and Windows does see it as a threat.

So, it must be something about that file that is falsely flagging in Defender.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

I totally think there's been a rogue defender definition added some how, as far as I have been able to tell its showing a definition that does not match on your PC / emulated PC Todd.

This file has been tested to death..

May I suggest as its a virtual machine an uninstall and recreation of this drive and of course I hope none of this has been via pirated software, no accusation just that there's versions out there and nothing that hacked can be trusted..

This isn't an attack, its purely trying to solve what could cause this..

The gamepack IS safe, please enjoy it....

Todd, there was no accusation and considering it was a proper question ,and it leads me to all this in general, you ran a file on a virus checker site that ran 58 individual top known virus checkers and got a zero result on the file but at some point either before or after posted here to ask for the thread to be suspended, never to my memory mentioned you had posted it on that site and got probably the most exact answer, spent time suggesting it still might be the gamepack even though you admitted even your own virus checker apart from your Defender said it was ok and then had loads of others show it was safe and then I spot you are running a defender definition that still even to this mornings new definition does not match yours and then reveal you had got the 0/58 result on the 19th...

is this a wind up?

Seriously, I really do like many of these people have more important things to do than run around after what seems 100% to be an issue on your machine yet knowing this you tried to get the thread closed....

Not impressive...

Paul,

I got a new Defender profile today. The version number matches the version in the Microsoft Update Catalog (http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=malware) Unfortunately, it still FALSELY flags this file as malware. I have submitted this as a false-positive on the Microsoft web site to see if they can adjust future definitions to prevent it from being falsely flagged.

I'd like to provide closure for others that read these posts, I agree that this file is safe. As I've stated several times, this is clearly an issue with Windows Defender and Windows 10. I believe that anyone that checks the 1.2.0 beta .exe file on Windows 10 with Windows Defender will see it flag and can safely disregard the concern. This file appears to be safe.

For what it's worth, I ran the file on the 58 checkers AFTER I posted here and someone suggested that it might be a false-positive.

I do sincerely apologize for creating concern over something that is clearly not an issue, but keep in mind, my original post came after the file disappeared overnight from my Windows VM and showed up in Windows Defender as a quarantined HIGH RISK Virus. I was only trying to warn people about what at the time seemed like a very real concern. Servers get hacked all the time. I never meant to imply that the people behind compiling this amazing collection of a fabulous walk down memory lane for me were doing anything malicious. I was concerned that someone had possibly hacked their Google Drive account and uploaded a version with a virus.

Again, I agree, there is no real risk here and I am sorry that I caused such a large amount of trouble. Please let me know what else I can do to further make up for the trouble I have caused.

Todd, the only thing you could have done was mention that you had checked it with that site, having that knowledge would have made things better.

Thank you for informing MS, I appreciate that and at the end of the day all me and Starwindz (and all the people who suggested games and improvements ) want is that people enjoy the gamepack, Starwindz created a wonderful front end that I loved like others helping with.

When they release a new definition (I won't suggest disabling the real time on Defender even though you have Kaspersky) just have fun with the gampack, that would make me happy and hopefully you happy too..

Hey folks. I just downloaded the two parts. I guessed that I was supposed to merge the "gamepack" subfolders so I did with robocopy. If I wasn't supposed to do that, please correct me. I do have another question though. At the base of the a8bgp_1 folder there is an update folder and an a8.exe executable. When I ran it, and clicked on "install" there was a progress bar that filled 3 or so times but then the app went into a "not responding" state and never came back. What exactly does this do? Do I need to worry about it?

No need to worry about it, the update feature implemented by Starwindz was sort of un needed after a certain release as it needed the whole file to be downloaded which was not how it should have worked.

The main two files actually give you the whole needed archive, just over write the newer files and refer to my previous posts re possible issues.

The gamepack isn't 100% correct, this is down to my part as I never had the time to check all the files included, the plan was to check every thing and replace wrong or add protected versions t enable the best versions around but well known issues with my daughter didn't allow this and Starwindz also had personal tragedy along with a very important demanding job that left neither of us time to do what we wanted.

Just run the a8_best_gamepack exe and refer to a simple file delete issue mention in very later posts in the thread re an ini file..It won't make the Gamepack 100% but it will fix some small issues..

Thank you Paul for your response. Yes, I thought this was some sort of updater feature that went neglected/forgotten after I successfully ran it and it downgraded me from ver 1.2.0 to 1.1.5 (or at least, that's what the indications were). No big deal though, I just restored a copy and decided to ignore it. Good to have confirmation that it shouldn't be used.

I did successfully update the version of Altirra (manually) in my local installation.

No worries about it not being 100%. IMHO, It works great and I'm super impressed it works at all considering the work involved here! :)

Also, sorry to hear about your family issues. I certainly hope it all worked out and things are back to normal.

Sorry but the project is now stalled, if you back read the thread a bit you will see the reasons

I'd love to say Starwindz and myself will return to it but the likelihood grows smaller each day..

But there are already 2 gamebases for Atari tools and demo's out there, one is called "Atari 800 Demo" but I forget the name of the other one, you will most likely have to search torrents, if I get time later I'll see if I can find some working links and point you to them.

Paul..
