Anyone on here good at repairing the cd unit? I got one from a guy that is very ruff. will load a game once out of about 50 tries, the cd latch was broke so the switch has been hot glued which seems fine as the drive will spin up and all it will just most of the time not recognize a disc.

If anyone has any skill in repairing these things please msg me

Google this part # OvalBugMan has in his signature, he's kinda the Jaguar CD expert:

Jaguar CD Players don't ever die! -they just need their CD laser mechanisms replaced!: part# - VAM1202/M* is $12.80 at dalbani.com (only needed if it still doesn't work after, making sure the cd spindle spins freely & several very thorough cleanings of everything on the unit.)

anyone have a link to buy a new laser assembly?

Look on eBay: a new VAM 1202 laser transport is about $20 shipping fees included from China.

Now better check first if this is the real source of your problem.

I put in the cd myst demo let him run for 20 minutes and then put yopaz Icestar starts immediately

I do not understand why the old games start immediately and these recent no

It's old. Mine does that too. It will run glass mastered CD's fine like Robinsons' Requiem which isn't old but is like the old ones. For CD-r's it's like the laser needed warming up with the older glass CD's to read the CD-rs or something. I can't explain why really. Just a guess.

But now mine seems to be failing at reading most CD-rs no matter what. Laser probably dying. I did read somewhere that CD-r's reduce laser life. Luckily unlike if you own a Saturn that has died like mine the parts are easier to get for the Jaguar CD. New.
