JamesD
Since someone has started going to the trouble of writing animation demos for the CoCo I thought a dedicated thread might be in order. No this isn't an Amiga.
John_L
Those above are courtesy Simon Jonassen, he's quite good, and has some amazing stuff... I think some of the most impressive stuff is the Donkey Kong transcode that John Kowalski did. He took the Z80 code from Donkey Kong and rewrote it in 6809 for the CoCo 3. The results are amazing considering the 6809 is doing all the work the Z80 did, plus handling sound generation as well. Another impressive bit of work was done by John Linville, another CoCo guru with lots of CoCo smarts has a working video player...
remz
And here are some demos made for a standard 128K CoCo 3 to show what this little machine could do: It could also 'simulate' the sound of a C64 SID: And lastly my most ambitious project: first-person realtime texture mapping: You can download the files to try them on a real CoCo or an emulator here: https://sites.google.com/site/rveilleux/coco3home/rems-coco-3-files

Charlie_
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6Mc_7GxvSw This is fantastic! I recorded this to tape and it loads up and plays great on my CoCo1.
John_L
It's interesting to note how modern games that entertain millions and earn as much, like flappy bird, angry birds, bejeweled, and candy crush can not only be faithfully recreated on a Color Computer 3, but done so without the 3 even breaking into a sweat. jhd
Wow, these are really impressive demos! While it is not new, does anybody remember the "original" Coco demo used in some Radio Shack stores ca. 1983? I only saw it a few times, around when I first bought my Coco, and all I remember was a scrolling Tandy/Radio Shack logo that changed size and colour as it went along. It was very impressive for the time. For whatever reason, I do not recall having seen it on any store demos in later years.

JamesD
What machine is this running on? That is a CoCo 2 with a 6309 CPU. A regular 6809 gets a slightly lower frame rate. There is a way he might get an even faster frame rate on the same machine with just a 6809, but it would require adding some RAM addressed in the ROM space and using the high speed mode. That would basically be a cart plugged into the expansion interface along with the SD interface. Someone gave me such a RAM board but I haven't tested it to see how much faster code would run yet. *edit* That would run pretty much the same on a CoCo 1 btw. Nebulon
Cool to hear those songs on the Color Computer again. Pretty sure I have some of those on disk somewhere. And for those who say the Tandy Color Computer can't play music and animate graphics at the same time... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azqvWgnAbnw
