LTO Flash! - Intellivision Flash Cartridge Information

Recommended Posts

Well it's hard to say how long it will be available for, as I have no crystal ball. It really depends on how quickly the initial run sells out and if there's enough interest for a second run if/when the initial run sells out.

Trying to time a purchase of a limited run item is a bit like trying to time the stock market.

I have a crystal ball and it says the initial run will sellout quickly! :)

Please alert me when this is available.

I am building full sized arcade machines to play these old consoles on their native hardware.

I would love to build an Intellivision machine.

Here is the work I have done on an Atari 2600 port: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/213119-2600-port-to-arcade-machine-project/

Curious, will you be incorporating a screen saver? That would really help the look of the machine to have some Inty screenshots while also issuing a command to the console so that it does not go into sleep mode?

Can LTO flash emulate the ECS PSGs?

No. Two reasons:

  1. I don't have the necessary DAC hardware on there to generate an audio output from the board. I had considered doing something like this (and even have some pins broken out on JLP03 to support this sort of experimentation), but I felt it too risky to try adding some form of audio output in this generation.
  2. The MCU I went with has enough cycles to emulate a ROM and handle fetching from RAM, but not much else. If I used a higher powered (and therefore more expensive) MCU, I could entertain such features. If I pick up the Statler / Waldorf design I set aside, maybe it can incorporate such things. But that's waaay in the future.

Is it possible the Space Patrol ROM may be avialable on/for the cart for an additional fee? Not that I want to slow the release at all, space patrol look amazing.

I'm sure I'll figure out something. :-)

Space Patrol is a good game. Any ETA on this multicart?

Sometime before the heat-death of the universe. ;-)

More seriously, I'm making slow but steady progress on the firmware. My day job brings new surprises every week unfortunately (including three different high priority customer issues that landed on my desk in one week), so it's been a challenge to carve out LTO time.

When I can put a date on it, I will.

I don't understand why this question was asked

Can LTO flash emulate the ECS PSGs?

I thought the LTO Flash Cartridge was just a Multicart that was like the CC3 and it is used to load games into the Intellivision so you can play them and it's not a stand alone system or hand-held system to play Intellivision games on. Why would it need to emulate the sound of the ECS, that is what the ECS it's self does. The whole point of the LTO Flash is so one can play the games on the real thing.

On the second issue

Space Patrol already came out, I have it on my CC3 and saw pictures of the Box and Cart when it was on sale back when it was being sold.

Well, with a fast enough MCU, it would be possible to build a multicart that also emulated various peripherals (ECS, Intellivoice), so that folks that lacked those peripherals could still play games that use them on a real Intellivision. But, I didn't want to take that risk on in this iteration.

Re: Space Patrol: Yeah, it did come out, and sold out, and eventually I want to get a new batch of them out there. But all these things take time. Also, the full edition ROM was never officially released, only the teaser (which is still available, BTW, at spacepatrol.info).

There's no longer such a thing as "just a multicart". Already we're seeing these devices come with additional RAM, DRM, and other features that go way beyond what a multicart is supposed to do.

Adding a few more sound channels into one isn't that much of a stretch.
