Omega-TI
I've pretty much decided to buy one of these next month. But would still like input from anyone who has already purchased one of these for their Classic Computer. There is quite an extensive list of systems it will run with. If you have never heard about this device before: << GO HERE >>
Rybags
Haven't got or used one but it sounds really impressive. Should be able to emulate practically any "standard" floppy system as it presents data to the controller as it would be coming from the real media. Advantage of this over others is that it's not platform-specific so you could have one and use on Amiga, ST, and many others. I see it can even take folders on the card and present them to an ST as a disk image - nice.
IainGrimm
I have been planning on getting one of these for my Amstrad CPC464 at some point this year (I will also need the ram expansion and board that allows multiple cartridges plugged in as I also need a DDI Clone which allows connection of the HxC so its going to be a bit pricey for that machine), only gripe some people have with it is that you have to convert the files into their format but it is no real biggie as there is a batch conversion option. Well worth investing in with it supporting many different machines, some people even take out their floppy drive and mount it in the case and cut holes into said case to see screen etc.
+wood_jl
There are several old threads in the Atari ST sub-forum here. If you enter that section and search "this forum" for "HxC" you'll see some. Here's a couple that I started, which may be helpful: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/159593-hxc-floppy-emulator-any-st-owners-here-getting-one/ http://atariage.com/forums/topic/165297-where-to-source-st-floppy-cables-power-extension/

If you have never heard about this device before: << GO HERE >> I know the folks I've talked to that are into older DOS/Win9x gaming machines usually have one of these. I've heard nothing but good things, especially since actually floppy disks for games/programs are growing more rare. Personally, for my retro build I still use a floppy drive in my machine, then I transfer programs to floppies using a USB floppy drive on my main computer to use them on my retro-box. But I'm also weird, so I don't recommend anyone does things like I do.
Omega-TI
I broke down and ordered one, but until it comes I've been playing around with the software, and it's NICE! I paid the extra for the shipping so it should be here (from Poland) within 8 working days. Now I just have to find time to decide how I want to setup my virtual diskettes. I've gotten kind of lazy using my HDX, but it'll be nice to be able to use my TI without having to turn the big machine on to act as the TI's server or use those old antiquated 3.5" diskettes. Omega-TI
Doesn't run Apple II. It doesn't? Then what is the Apple II button for? You're right though, the book does not mention Apple. (see attachment)
Uzumaki
Nice supports Commodore 1581 as well. If only it was cheaper than the half-dozen other disk drive emulator that's out and doesn't need actual disk. If I still had working A500, I might have been interested.
yell0w_lantern
I have one. Interestingly, it is not always easy to convert files correctly or, perhaps more accurately, you sometimes have to hunt for file types you can convert to the HFE format. Cables can also be a nuisance.

Cables can also be a nuisance. Well I *THINK* I converted the files correctly, I'll know for sure in a few days. I was amazed how fast it did the batch conversions too. The cable should not be an issue in my case as I'm just pulling one of my 3.5"s out of the box (pictured below), so it should just be an easy swap as the cable and power connections are the same as on a 3.5.
