Guys,  did anyone notice this?

Check out this comic

http://garfield.com/comic/2014-07-20

The comic title is nearly identical to the Atari 2600 Garfield Cartridge, SEE:

http://atariage.com/...wareLabelID=838

The color is slightly off, and facing a different direction.

Is it possible that Jim Davis has an original cartridge, or possibly a more complete prototype?

Or at least screenshots.  Or did he hack the image from the internet.

I think it's pretty cool regardless.

What do you guys think?

Joel

Garfield is still being made? I mean, I guess Family Circus got made decades after it wasn't funny, but.. Garfield??

The image is almost certainly taken directly from the rom, whether directly or as a screengrab.

That's pretty interesting. I'm sure it was just taken from a screenshot.

I noticed the ROM is available for download. Is it any good, or is this just another piece of shovelware?

Looks the same, except the eyes are a bit different.

Incomplete prototype.
Bonus points for the "LSD trippy" Odie stages.

Which could either indicate that there exist another prototype or that someone has edited the screenshot.

Moving a few pixels around is a lot more probable than another prototype.

Clearly Jim Davis searches Google for obscure links to Garfield.

I doubt that he remembers a licensing deal from 1984 for a 2600 game that never came to be.

Based on the story on AtariProtos, it seems like Jim Davis, in granting permission to release the ROM image, was certainly aware of its existence, and relatively recently at that. Considering the near exact replication, it's likely he was working off of screenshots in his possession rather than a random Web search, and did so quite deliberately. I'm no fan of his, but it's definitely a cool move.

Garfield is the comic I'll be reading in purgatory.  There are so many volumes you can literally start over and have completely forgotten the panels.

© Paws, Inc. is quite alert on the proper use of this ROM.

If their copyright statement .txt file is not included with the code, they will not give permission to use the ROM.

Atarimania got a warning from them a few years ago.

Neat! To bad this was never finished back then. As a Garfield uber fan back in the 80's, I would have been all over it.

I also recall an old Apple II Garfield comic strip maker, that included a bunch of clip art of the characters in various poses and you could add your own words. I used to play with it in the school library when I wasn't playing Oregon Trail or Print Shop.
