I don't really see what the big deal is, honestly? I love coming to this board to "get away..." I love my job, and I love what I do, but the work is extremely depressing sometimes... seeing the worst of society. So it's nice to come onto this board and completely get away from it all. I've been on boards that are dead, and you make a post and maybe someone responds 2 weeks later... that's how the Jaguar Forum was just a couple of years ago. I find this to be a nice change of pace... if there's something that doesn't peak my interest, I just don't read it. I'm not trying to get everyone else upset... I just think people should let be what is...

…and I would add, there is an "ignore this topic" button at the top of every thread. Using that function beats the heck out of getting enraged. I rarely use that, but I am always interested in what others have to say. Sometimes I like it…sometimes I don't.

I completely agree with your sentiment regarding activity on the forum. This place is great that way…lots of traffic…lots of topics to choose from. I can't see any problem with that myself.

Most of my topics are well thought out and informative. So what the hell is the problem with a group of you against me? Its like you have some old grudge against me and no matter what I do, you don't like me. How childish can you be? Many people are too hard on me. Its ridiculous. I guess im "different" than your average person, I don't fit in well I guess. It sucks for me in life let me tell you. Im just different and many people don't like that I guess. Whatever. I get bored and lonely and too much free time. And im a kid at heart. I refuse to totally grow up, type perfectly, with perfect grammar, and be agreeable with everyone, and go with the flow, and be a slave drone of society like 90 or 95% of people. I do what the hell I feel like doing but at the same time I try to not offend of upset people. I think many people are jealous of me though. Whatever, life is crazy, just be glad you are alive. Be glad if you have a normal decent life. Because my life is pretty shitty and not from my own doing, just really bad luck. Wouldn't wish it on anyone what I have been through in the last 10+ years.

I think it's easy to get too excited when you have a forum with people talking about exactly what you're interested in. I try to put my two cents in. If it's not funny or informative I'll get silence or snark. Sometimes that's hard to interpret. Among men that can be a nod of approval or polite (yet annoyed) tolerance.

Maybe this bit of kidding around was an informal way to say "we're been through this before, slow down sonny!" Not an attack and certainly not hate. That's my take at least.

I don't post a lot why ? It's yet difficult to find free time for Atari developping, so when i come on Atariage, seeing that the last 10 threads are polls, like worst games on Jaguars, etc... This kind of polls have been asked several times, a forum with only polls it's a pain in the ass nothing else. They are no news inside a poll, no talking, except where supercross 3d had a fuckin framerate, special colors, etc...

I want real discutions, news no more polls !!

I myself don't mind weeding through a few topics I'm not interested in, if it gets me to something interesting, heck, I might learn something along the way. I'd rather spend that extra minute or two looking, than come to a place with cobwebs because nobody bothers to posts anything and the place is deserted. If one wants real discussions and other topics, they are free to start their own topics, the more the merrier! Sometimes a new topic thrives, sometimes they wither and die, but the board is only what you make of it.

In the early Fidonet day's they had a saying, "Don't be annoying or easily annoyed".

I clicked the like button for your post…not because you have had a rough go of it, but rather because you are unapologetic regarding your posting habits. For me, I come here as a release…not because I feel the need to post what any one person specifically wants or needs. I tend to enjoy posting pics of Shatner, Hello Kitty, Knight Rider and other nonsensical things…I full well know that there are as many folks who enjoy it, as there are the ones that hate it. Regardless, I have a good time of it and figure that anyone who doesn't enjoy my humor can easily click the ignore topic/user button at any time. I too, can use that function just as easily. It's a "Win-Win". as far as I am concerned.

Personally, I don't really enjoy most of the polls on AA…from anyone. My reason is simple: most of them have been done a million times. That does not mean that I want them abolished…some members just signed up yesterday, and they may be enjoying the same things we were discussing three years ago. Who am I to tell them that they missed it three years back, so tough noggies? Typically, I just skim past the stuff that doesn't interest me…it's fairly simple enough to determine that from the subject line's message.

I say, do whatever makes you happy…as long as it isn't malicious or nasty, post what the heck you want to post. ;)

The only thing I dislike about kevincal is 'some' of his ebay listings (high prices), other than that I appreciate his enthusiasm for the Jaguar and see no problems with posting Jaguar topics in the Jaguar forum. What's way more annoying is all the people who aren't mods trying to dictate what can and can't be posted here, or what people should and shouldn't own etc...

I don't mind the amount of posts so much as the little amount of thought put into each one. It's like someone downed a couple of 40's, then went hog-wild on the forum without thinking much. Passionate, yes, I can see and appreciate that, but a little more tact would be nice.

I was also thinking that bumping the occasional old thread would be cool, and sometimes perhaps that could be better than starting a new thread and starting from scratch again. I mean, given the limited library there's only so much to talk about without dipping into absurdity ("Durr hey guys, let's make a Trevor McFur club!!"). All joking aside, it can be really interesting to go back and read the opinions of people that might not post here anymore, while also having the thoughts of newer folks tacked onto the topic as well.

I'm casting my stone for Kevincall. I have no problem with his recent rash of polls and posts. If you don't like it, you don't have to read or respond. While I would have designed the polls differently, he turned me on to Jaguar Corner and a new developer to watch out for. I appreciate his enthusiasm. Hell, I even bought a copy of the infamous Jaguar issue of Next Generation from him a while back. You keep rockin' Kevin!

^^ 100% agree ! ^^

I would also like to add one thought to those who have been bagging on kevincal's posting/polling choices….

For just a moment, please put yourself into his shoes. How would you feel if you visited AtariAge one day, and folks were running a thread which specifically targeted you? Personally, it would make me feel pretty shitty. Regardless of the anonymity which the internet provides…regardless of the fact that most of you are, and always will be strangers to me…regardless of the fact that none of what we do here has much bearing on our day to day lives. Regardless of all of that, it would still suck…pretty badly. This forum is my way of unwinding. It is also my home away from home, without having to leave the house (if that makes any sense :P ).

I wish folks would think about such things, if only just for a moment, prior to creating threads like this. In the greater scheme of things, what exactly is the point to this kind of thread? To hurt someone's feelings? To make them go away? If that is the case, then I would say that some of you have far more idle time than kevincal. At least his polls don't aim to single anyone out, nor do they hurt anyone's feelings. They just happen to not be your cup of tea…such is life.

Guys and gals…this isn't high school anymore. We are all entitled to carve out our own space here…and that means ALL of us. And now, a message from our sponsors Shatner...

PS: just in case anyone was wondering, the above message from Shatner is directed at ALL of us. This is a forum dedicated to vintage video game systems…we aren't curing Cancer here folks.

I haven't got cancer licked yet but hopefully child abuse will be taking a dent soon.

Life would be pretty dull and depressing if we all had to conform to some preset and narrow standard handed down by a judgmental few. It would suck the fun and excitement right out of Atari Age. I come to this place SPECIFICALLY because it broadens my horizons and introduces me to so many new and exciting things. I like to see others take the time to share their excitement, knowledge and information about their passion/hobby. It's a win-win in my book.

Unfortunately that doesn't hide topics from ignored people, and you still see that stupid 'you have chosen to ignore this person' message in posts.

I don't visit here enough to have an opinion on this topic, but taking what you said one step further, it would be nice if the forum software also hid quotes. And I agree that hiding ignored post entirely would be nice as well. I occasionally put someone on ignore, but sometimes my curiously leads me to selecting to read the offending post anyways.

I'd rather just not know it even exist.

I totally respect you, Benny. You're a good forum member and I like your posts. So this is in no way be trying to argue with you or tell you that you're wrong.

I will say first that I totally get the people that aren't into KevinCal. He abuses "the anonymity which the internet provides" to lash out at people who disagree with him or call him out for whatever. I think (and he can correct me if he so chooses) that he hates me because I gave him shit a few years back for running multiple (and I mean multiple multiple) sales threads in the marketplace. He PMed me to call me a fat bald loser, I reported him to Al rather than respond, and he got temp-banned. Point is, why is one adult PMing another adult and calling him a fat bald loser? And why is that same guy telling Austin that he needs to "go on a diet". This isn't high school anymore, indeed.

He also had a tantrum when he submitted a score in the NES HSC using a remake of the game with different scoring conventions (He played SMB on the SNES). Again, acting childish, flinging personal insults again (called me an "Asshole" this time and told me that I was "fucked up"). In the 4+ years of running the NES HSC, it's the only thread that I ever had to lock.

Now, that all being said, I agree with the general sentiment of your post. No one needs to log on here to find that someone has created a thread with the specific purpose of criticizing them. That's pretty mean-spirited. Especially when all he was doing was creating more conversation in the only area of the forums that he still seems to be active in.

Maybe the fact that he has as many vocal detractors as he does is what makes him act the way that he does because he feels like his back in against the wall. Maybe his personal problems are too much and he's burdened with extra stress. Maybe he has some kind of mental issue. Maybe his life is as crappy as he says it is, and he comes here to unwind and escape a little bit therefore reacts badly when someone creates a negative experience for him here. I used to really hate the guy, but I'm just too old for that now and I don't care anymore. Frankly, his behavior just makes me sad. Because I bet in person he's probably a half-decent guy. We're both into old games, we both make YouTube videos. Shit, we don't even live that far from each other. And I bet that if we met and I didn't know who he was and he didn't know who I was, we'd probably get along pretty good.

But the thing is, I don't know him in person. All I know of him is what he presents here. And what he presents here is generally pretty negative, and leaves a lasting impression. And although I don't agree with the creation of a thread like this for the reasons that you stated, if he doesn't want to see stuff like this, then he should really take a moment to look at himself and re-evauate the manner in which he chooses to interact with the community.

The worst part of this? Even though I'm being totally sympathetic to the dude, I am completely expecting to get either a vulgar response in this thread, or a hateful PM in my inbox. If he doesn't have me on ignore, that is.
