ComputerSpaceFan
How is it playing some of the Atari games on iOS using an iCade? My particular interest is analog games like Red Baron. I have the collection for Nintendo DS and the controls are not bad, especially if you use a 3DS with the circle pad. The iCade is strictly digital, not analog, so does it pale in comparison? Jess Ragan
I have it for Android- with all the games, thanks to Amazon coins- and there doesn't seem to be any options for external controllers. Bummer!

It plays VERY well with the ION iCade Core. Red Baron is about average since I'm not that good with the game and dont play it much I can only say that its OK with the iCade. I can shoot biplanes easily and control the plane very well but when Zeppelins show up I suck. lol There are multiple variations to the controls of each game that you can pick from. I stick with the default for most of them. Atari 2600 games feel kind of weird with arcade controls but wayyy better than the touch screen. In fact I must say the iCade core is a must own controller. Most people who rate these apps low probably don't own an iCade or proper controller. I found the emulation pretty good especially the vector games. I give it a thumbs up. Its worth it for 10 bucks. I think you get 90 games or so.
DaveD
With Red Baron you can use tilt controls which make it quite playable in an iPad. I have the Atari made joystick that's meant for the collection. Not a big fan of it. It's clunky and always in portrait mode. I also have a Bluetooth 8-bit style controller which works great for Vectrex but doesn't work in Atari. Overall the controls for most games are not ideal. But as a historical collection it's really great. I do find many of the 2600 games to be great time wasters. Hmmm...according to the Think Geek 8bitty/iCade page it's supposed to be ompatible. I need to give it another go then. Either way I'd recommend the 8Bitty over the iCade. Edited August 22, 2014 by DaveD
Atariboy
I have the collection for Nintendo DS and the controls are not bad, especially if you use a 3DS with the circle pad. Out of curiosity, does it retain your high scores for Red Baron? Every arcade game does on both volumes of the DS for me except this one. It will be there when it loads up, then will disappear 5 seconds later. Between that, digital control, and the resolution of the DS being less than ideal for vector arcade games (Especially seems to harm Red Baron, particularly on an original DS), Red Baron doesn't see much action on my DS. ComputerSpaceFan
You're right, Red Baron doesn't save my high scores either. I guess a further glitch
mckafka99
Both 8 Bitty and iCade core work with the app just fine. I think it's really well done.
