Shawn
Hey All, Where would be the best place to buy a project box large enough to hold arcade controls for the purpose of building a joystick? Thanks, Shawn
Osgeld
either though distrubution such as digikey or mouser or direct from factory, pactech, polycase, hammond manufacturing and bud industries are usually my go to all have nice slant top control panel cases, hell hammond even has them in walnut and brushed aluminium if you want to pay out the nose for it

onemoretime
Aluminum bread pans turned upside down maybe? The old heavy ones like you can get at goodwill for a buck or two. Could use an old Nintendo, could even shove the cord in the door when not in use. Ran across some high density plastic boxes at hobby lobby once. They were clear, so you could get creative there. I reckon folks put flowers in them or something.

onemoretime
Didn't really mean to post the same reply twice, I thought I didn't post it. Anyhow, I don't know how thick these are, but here ya go. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/6-x-4-acrylic-box-631911/
Shawn
I'm looking more for something rectangular like say maybe around 7 or 8 x 4 or 5 x 3 inches. Depth just has to be able to fit an arcade joystick switch box and normal arcade buttons.
+wongojack
I've wondered what I could do inside an old VHS case a few times. Probably not big enough for arcade stuff though.

No it wouldn't unfortunately. I want something plan as possible too.
+Ksarul
Oddly enough, I saw some plastic project boxes about like what you're looking for in a Radio Shack this weekend. . .
+David_P
Check out eBay; there are a large number of sellers with project boxes like that available.
Forrest
http://www.allelectronics.com is typically a good place to find project boxes, but not in this case. They sell 1 box that fit's your size requirements, but it's $24.50. http://www.amazon.com has a good deal on the iCade Core Arcade controller for the iPad $17.99 new. The iCade has an arcade joystick, 8 buttons and a bluetooth controller that works fine with an iPhone/iPad, but not much else. Considering the low price, you could buy the iCade, rip out the bluetooth controller and replace it with your own electronics or a Rasberry Pi. I recently bought one and am working on mounting the Rasberry Pi now - there's plenty of room on the left side of the cabinet. Google Porta Pi Arcade for more info on how to connect a joystick and buttons to a Rasberry Pi.
