dphirschler
I have several Scott Adams Adventure games (Claymorgue Castle and some others for instance) on diskette that I’d like to make into cassettes. Anybody have some pointers on how to convert these? Darryl
RXB
Just look at the file type on disk and set up a XB program that reads the Disk file and do a save in the same format onto Cassette.
dphirschler
Sounds simple enough. Is it really that easy? Sounds like it's time to brush out the cobwebs! It's been a long time since I programmed XB. Darryl
RXB
You might have to use a sector editor to see the way the file is set up.

dphirschler
I'll find out. I think they might be dsk/var which was just a text/data file, right? EDIT: Here is the listing from the disk: COUNT 40 PROGRAM 10198 P GHOSTTOWN 40 PROGRAM 10042 P ODYSSEY 40 PROGRAM 10042 P PYRAMID 40 PROGRAM 10114 P SAVAGE1 40 PROGRAM 10042 P VOYAGE 40 PROGRAM 10218 P FUNHOUSE 41 PROGRAM 10466 P MISSION 41 PROGRAM 10434 P PIRATE 41 PROGRAM 10360 P VOODOO 41 PROGRAM 10296 P ADVENTURE 42 PROGRAM 10646 P SAVAGE2 49 PROGRAM 12488 P LOAD 42 PROGRAM 10638 P AVOCADO 48 PROGRAM 12235 P IRONHEART 49 PROGRAM 12298 P BUCKAROO 37 PROGRAM 9451 P CLAYMORGUE 38 PROGRAM 9670 P SPIDERMAN 41 PROGRAM 10422 P HULK 42 PROGRAM 10525 P I want to get Claymorgue, Ironheart, and Avocado off the disk and into cassette form. I don't even remember what Ironheart and Avocado are. And I can't remember solving Claymorgue (The Sorcerer of Claymorgue Castle). Anyways, they are not D/V. I guess PROGRAM means it's in some compressed bin format. I doubt they are executable. Darryl Edited August 16, 2014 by dphirschler
RXB
That looks like TI Basic set up of CALL FILES(1) or CALL FILES(0) And they are program image format so if you look at the sectors on disk you will see the size and loading locations. Regulus
There is two ways to convert Scott Adams games to a cassette tape. From TI-99/4A, I did it with Tex Comp Adventure Editor. I was unable to find the program on whtech.com. There is a utility that will allow you to convert a FIAD file to a Wave file. FIAD files can be found http://ftp.whtech.com/games/scott%20adams%20adventures.zip Using a Disk Manager in an emulator, games exist in a disk imagine, needs to be saved as a FIAD file. Hopefully the next step of recording a wave file from the computer to a cassette tape will be succesful. CS1er Author: Dean Corcoran Description: Converts TI cassette files to WAV format. CS1er is a program used to decode the binary sound of files storedon cassette tapes, used on Texas Instruments TI99/4a Computers. Thisis then saved in 'FIAD' file format used on many TI Emulators.CS1er's objective is Data accuracy of badly recorded or damaged tapes.CS1er now contains the ability to save a FIAD as a Wav file. NEW! - 2/15/05 Version 0.9 Beta Release 1 - Windows Version Reads Cassette Sound files in WAV, Mono, 8 Bit, 44.1KHz format. Very Tollerant of Bad recordings. WAV File Graphic display while processing. Better than real TI for accuracy. Allows you to continue when bad records found. -- Notes -- CS1er should run on any Windows PC system Pentium or above, VGA screen or better.
