Yep, I do get the rainbow screen and after that the screen goes black, there's no sound. The game shouldn't have dirty contacts, I've only had the game for week or two it's kepted in the bag that the game came with.
RevEng
Did this deck play the cart fine prior to modding? 7800 decks are pretty quirky from revision to revision.

Rip Off is the one game I didn't try before the mod but it play Double Dragon and Robot Tank just fine. RevEng
I'm pretty sure the problem is with the deck, not the mod. The video mod simply taps the signal from a certain part of the board and amplifies it. There just isn't much potential of it messing up one game but not others. Greg2600
Have you tried fiddling with the difficulty switches on the front? There have been some 7800 homebrew that won't work with certain config.
Jinks
Never heard of 7800 homebrew not working with difficulty switches.
Greg2600
Yes, Crazy Brix didn't work if they were set in one direction. At least the one on that 30th anniversary cart.
Trebor
Yes, Crazy Brix didn't work if they were set in one direction. At least the one on that 30th anniversary cart. "Didn't work" respecting if you do not have the difficulty switches set properly according to the controllers you wish to utilize, your player/paddle would not respond. Both the stand alone and the 30th Anniversary multi-cart function exactly the same. You could still start a game, hearing the begin game audio tune and video graphics would of course be present as well; but you will not be able to launch the ball(s) or move the paddle if the controls you are trying are not hooked up properly and/or the difficulty switches are not set accordingly. For the record regarding Crazy Brix: Joystick plugged into port 1. Paddles plugged into port 2. Left difficulty switch in the left position = Paddles work Left difficulty switch in the right position = Joystick works There is no homebrew that exhibits this kind of behavior or provides this result, conditional of difficulty switch positioning: ...I do get the rainbow screen and after that the screen goes black, there's no sound... Trebor
I know that Tower Toppler freaks out when difficulty switches aren't set. I'll try that out in morning. Tower Toppler will keep circulating/skipping the different levels if the right difficulty switch is in the left position. If the right difficulty switch is in the right position it stops skipping through the levels. This can be done at any point once the game is started. There is no difficulty switch position (for any retail or as mentioned homebrew game) that provides the following result: ...I do get the rainbow screen and after that the screen goes black, there's no sound... Time would be better spent looking elsewhere for the problem(s). Difficulty switch setting is not the issue.
Trebor
The only thing I could dig up at the moment with similar symptoms is here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/119633-pal-carts-in-an-ntsc-7800-system/?do=findComment&comment=1444608...It's the result of having some sort of PAL/NTSC mismatch, but that does not seem to be applicable in this case. Possible the encryption checking is screwed up/'choking' (?), or has anyone's Maria chip ever gone "bad"
Trebor
I don't know how much time you want to spend on this issue...but with a little patience, eBay yields console/deck only BINs between $20-40 tested/working. Some very recent examples include: August 4: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-7800-Black-Console-NTSC-/271565539349?pt=Video_Games&hash=item3f3a914815 3 working consoles (Sold individually) @ $20 each July 29: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATARI-7800-PRO-SYSTEM-REPLACEMENT-CONSOLE-ONLY-NTSC-/111414984301?pt=Video_Games&hash=item19f0d9be6dConso Console only $33.59 August 2: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-7800-Black-Console-Only-NTSC-Broken-Pins-on-Cart-Port-Works-/161356296689?pt=Video_Games&hash=item259195b1f1 Console only $25.99 works but you would want to swap the cartridge slot from one of your console with the pins still present. There are listings too for consoles 'untested/unknown' that cosmetically appear great; however, I would not recommend them without knowing for sure they work without issue. walter_J64bit
Thanks Trebor I was thinking if I replace the sound chip on my dysfunctional 7800 that might do the trick but I don't know which chip it is on the motherboard. Back to my other 7800, Ok difficulty switch didn't do any thing. Edited August 20, 2014 by walter_J64bit
FireTiger
Try to figure out which revision your two decks are-I have one that refuses to display Choplifter for more then 30 seconds (or crossing the neutral zone) -One that seems to hate pokey chips (blank screen often rolling or stuck sound)and one that plays nice but had a bad power cord (fixed now)Good luck.
