New to Jaguar...controller/console issues HELP :O

Hi this is my first post and I am new to Jaguar and Atari in general. Admittedly I am a bit of a Nintendo fangirl but I've crossed to the darkside Anyway, I just picked up a Jaguar with 2 conrollers, a multitap, about 11 games and strategy guide. Here is the issue I am having. The "Option" button does not work when I play some games. I have tried both controllers. However it worked just fine when I played Brutal League Football and Cybermorph.(Games that both use the option button.) However the guide says on Wolfenstein 3D that the option button is used to toggle weapons and I have pressed every button on the controller but I can't change weapons. I also tried Raiden - supposedly the Option button is used to bring up an options menu but this does not work. So my question is, is there a problem with the controllers, the games or the controller port on the console? I have not had this problem with any other system and I don't understand why it works just fine on some games but not on others like Wolfenstein (which I really want to play!) Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to have to buy a replacement console but the box of games- many of which are boxed is too enticing and I want to play this awesome system. I already cleaned the pins on the controllers and cleaned the inside of the system so I don't see what the problem is.

I just read on GameFAQs that you can't cycle through weapons in beginning of Wolfenstein which it didn't mention in my strategy guide so maybe my controller isn't broken I feel kinda dumb but you think they would mention that hehe. Well anyway I look forward to reading more posts on the forum and I will post again later if I have anything else Atari related. I guess you guys would be the ones to ask!

Been a while since I played Wolfenstein 3D and Doom but as I recall you start with only the one weapon and collect more as you play, once you have more than one then you can then switch between them.

 

As for Raiden, once you start playing I am sure you have to pause the game and then press the Option button to get to the Options menu and adjust sound effects options which is usually the case for jaguar games otherwise you could accidently bring the options screen up in the middle of a fire fight and die horribly as a result.

 

As an overall guide if a controller button works with one game but not another then logically there cannot be something wrong with the controller/controller button concerned as it is clearly works. Therefore either that button is not used by the game or you need to re-read the manual to ascertain if and when that buttons function is available to you.

Do you have the overlays for any of these games? (Plastic piece that goes over the numeric keypad). As I recall in wolfenstein you switch weapons on the keypad. You should be able to switch between the fist and the pistol right off the bat.

 

I would agree with Steve that you probably don't have controller issues but rather should look up the game manuals and familiarize yourself.

Oh yeah in wold its just game saves. Not sure then, if option is working for other games it should be working for wolf. Play a level or two, get some more weapons, and give it another try.
